Situation: open table, one solid and three stripes down. Player makes the 8-ball. What is the score?

I think I know the answer, but can't find a rule book to verify.

I emailed susie cue for an answer. She's a ref and runs the vnea league in my area.

Answer to Scoring Question

Situation: open table, one solid and three stripes down. Player makes the 8-ball. What is the score?

I think I know the answer, but can't find a rule book to verify.

The answer is the score is 10-0.

Page 11 of the big blue rule book... "On an open table, all pocketed ball remain pocketed. The choice of stripes or solids is NOT determined on the break even if balls are made from onlu one or both groups. The table is ALWAYS open immediately after the break shot. The choice of group is determined only when a player legally pockets a called object ball after the break shot."

Also, Page 27 clearly states: "if a game ends without a group of balls being legally determined, the winner receives ten points and the opponent receives zero points.

Hope this answers your question.

Have a great day,
Susie

It's kind of like making the 8 on the break and/or making it and scratching. It doesn't matter how many balls are made on the break, the score is still 10-0 when 8 ball breaks count.

Thanks for the answer. I've been asked this twice in the last couple of weeks, and it happened to my team last night.

Maybe I should have a rule book...

It's funny how this keeps on coming up. Last night one of my players asked me about this too. Crazy, it very rarely happens but it's sure being talked about a lot lately.

I'm the president of our league here in Georgia and have run across this a couple times this year... We elect a new president every year... My ruling on something like this has always been 10-0 because if the table is not established yet how can you have any balls to score points with...

Thank you for the post and Susie for the answer ... I'm happy to know that I made the right ruling...

Worst Possible Score is the rule i believe.
so 10-1

My LO screwed me twice this season if this is really the answer!

I've been playing in Susie's league's for quite a few years and she either knows or finds out the answer's to question's. I also know that when she was in Vegas at some point, she took a referee class or classes.

She also gave page number's of where she got the answers, so you might want to ask your LO to check them.

Thanks JE54! I appreciate your kind words. I try my best. You are also correct that when I don't know, I don't pretend to know, I will do what it takes to find the right answer.

BTW, Antioch league starts on Monday, and we have 11 teams this session! Thanks for being a dedicated league player and friend.
