Want to sell a Cognoscenti

Hello all, I am new here. My main reason for coming here is to try and sell my Cog. I am from Chicago and bought this cue from Joe himself. I helped him design it on the computer back in the mid 90's. I can't remember the date exactly. I used to hang out at the Cafe on Irving park Rd when he used to frequent there looking for some action. That's how I met him. I was good friends with his assistant Steve and very good friends with Kyle from Mariposa ( I actually helped him out with his first couple batches of cues in the basement of the cafe ) . Either way that's a little info about me since I am new here and this cue is expensive. I have never sold a cue before so that is new to me and need some help. I was directed here by someone online that buys and sells collectibles. Either way the cue is in the 19oz range, I will get the stats for sure. It's a 4 point Ebony, ivory and malachite cue, not turquoise. It has the diamonds on the tips of the points with the green dot. It's a real head turner. What I need is some direction as to how to appraise it and go about selling it from some of you that know how this is handled. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get here. It is in fantastic condition. I've used it 10 times at the most since I got it. I will post some simple pics since this little camera sucks but I can try to do better next week if anyone is interested. I'd rather try and appraise it properly instead of throwing numbers out there as to it's value.

Thanks again, Here are the pics.

so this design became one of his staples ?

besides the plain jane ebony and cocabola ones ?

I should clarify " helped him design " . We took a design that he already had in his system and tweaked it. I think it was the diamonds on the end of the points with the malachite inlays in them but I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday so that is the best I can do. He had been making similar cues for a bit but I remember how much he liked this one when it was done and he made some more.

He had other designs with the fancier points and inlays and a TON more moolah.

Thank You. I just need the dough. I had no intentions of getting rid of it. I have a nice Mariposa Butterfly point cue that I actually helped build which will be my cue of choice til death. I have it in the gallery section if anyone cares to see it.

For sure. I've played some of his cues that had solid gold inlays as well as turquoise and malachite like yours. From what I recall the designs were nicely done and very intricate although mostly machined. Some were on the heavy side and lacked in playability what they gained in aesthetics.

Don't get me wrong. They were all beautiful cues. Their ornateness, though, made it difficult to feel comfortable while playing with it. At least for me. Kinda like driving a Ferrari in New York City. You can't appreciate the drive while worrying about getting sideswiped by a taxi cab.

Exactly! My first Cog set me back about $1500 but I played with it every day. When I got this one, I was a nervous wreck. I guess that means I really couldn't afford it :D

Yeah. It also means that you've already decided to sell it. So, what you can't afford is the risk that it might get damaged before you have the opportunity to bank it.

I hate that feeling.:(

Most new members and expensive cues sold here are handled by escrow. Marcus, Fast and Loose, offers his service. He could certainly verify the condition of the cue for you and be one step ahead already.

Well I thought there wold be a little more interest in this Cog. Either way, thanks to all the PM's with advice on selling this bad boy. I have sent Marcus a PM and will be moving forward with this.

Thanks Again
