I had known him only briefly, a few years ago. He was a personable guy, a real pool enthusiast, and a talented instructor. I'm saddened with this terrible news.

A former student,

OMG, I had no idea he had cancer. This is horrible news.

Last time I saw Doug, he was a "regular" at the Wednesday nightly tournaments in Rockville. He loved playing pool, and that guy could play his heart out.

Doug was a BCA-certified instructor, a strong player, and a pool enthusiast. RIP, Doug. Too young to go, my friend. You will be missed. :(

Sorry to hear this but knew it was coming.

I got lessons from Doug about 7 years ago and really got along well with him. He won at least one Planet-pool stop years ago. He was a very steady, methodical player. Nothing fancy, just good shot selection/decision making.

Having watched my dad die from colon cancer, I knew how this was going to end, but I was still amazed at Doug's resilience. I think he may have fought this cancer for around 4 years, if I'm not mistaken.

Anyway, another sad day for the MD/DC/VA pool community.

RIP, Doug.

This is sad news. Doug was a great guy and a great instructor who did a lot to improve many players' games, including mine.

He battled his cancer for at least 4 years and, to his credit, lived much longer than he initially expected.

Rest in Peace.

Sad news for sure. Doug was a well-liked part of DC/ MD pool and lots of us have missed his participation for years.

He came out to the Frederick Planet Pool event earlier this year to watch and it was good speaking to him.

RIP, Doug. Thanks for spending your time with us.

My experience in this life is that top-notch coaches are few and far between.

Doug was without a doubt one of the best mentors in my entire life.

I'm grateful for these past four years -- great memories forever.

My thoughts are with his family and his many friends.

Doug Sharp's Funeral

Hey All

Doug will be greatly missed and I don't think anyone like him will come along for a long time in the Pool World.

Doug passed Sunday morning around 5:30am in his sleep. His liver cancer finally got him and he went quickly and without pain.

Washington Post will have an ad on Tuesday.
The viewing will be Wed 2-4 and 7-9pm at Collins Funeral home in Silver Spring on University Blvd. The Funeral will also be at Collins at 1pm on Thursday.

While I had never met him, it is obvious from those that knew him that Doug was a nice man and a fine teacher. It's always sad to lose a good teacher...we can never have too many of those. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Doug.

Doug will be truly missed

I've been out of the Md. area for quite a while but for a long time Doug and I were very close.

Some of the happiest times of my life were spent in his presence.

He would definitely keep you on your toes:wink::wink:

He could always get a rise out of me.:grin:

Very good player with a first class stroke.

Sorry to see him go.

John
