We need to find the Classic Footage of Pool

I was surfing around on the web looking for footage of Mosconi shooting some pool and I could not believe that the most famous player of any era in this sport is virtually impossible to see on old footage on the internet.

What I would like to know is does anyone know of historic footage of Mosconi playing in actual competition? I have found some footage of far more obscure players shooting from that era in matches where you can really get an idea of their speed, but for Mosconi all you find is a 60+ year old doing exhibition matches and while you get a glimmer of what he once might have been it is not exactly showing you the Mosconi of legend.

I actually found Freddy the Beard's website with some classic pool matches on it and I must say there are some gems, seeing footage of some classic names from the past. There is actually footage of Willie Hoppe and Ralph Greenleaf out there, usually not great but that stuff is old.

There has to be some footage of Mosconi shooting in the World Championships, some match on film somewhere of the man shooting in his prime so we can actually see how the guy shot at his peak. We need to try and get a hold the footage that has to exist somewhere and get it on digital format so that it is not destroyed in some random fire in some warehouse. And not only for Mosconi but any of the old footage out there, the history of this sport should be presserved and by getting stuff like that out there it might help abit the state of the current professional pool world.

Here is a good one but the audio is not to good

Yeah, I have seen that one, thanks for the links though.

But this is kind of what I am saying, that there is a very old Lassiter and an even older Willie Mosconi playing way past their prime.

What I am looking for is these types of things.

Cisero Murphy vs Lassiter in the 1966 World 14.1 Championships.

Boston Shorty vs Lassiter 1-pocket in 1967 Johnston City (click on the small second window)

Harold Worst vs Boston Shorty in 1965 Johnston City (Straights and 9-ball video on there)

See this stuff is from their era, it is actual tournament competition from when they were at or near their best. This kind of thing had to have been recorded at times for Mosconi, it is just that atm it seems lost.

ABC might have some of that stuff in their vault.........is it ok to call it a vault? I know back in the day ABC used to cover pool on Wide World of Sports, they used to follow Fats around a lot. I bet my ass they have footage of some of those old tournaments. It's getting them to release them that would be the trick.
MULLY
and I'm only guessing here

I transferred that one tape I had of Lassiter and Cisero and put it on youtube.I wish I could find more stuff out there.

This is exactly what I am thinking, the footage is probably exactly as you say, stored away in some dusty vault gathering dust as the film very slowly dried and deteriorates. It is a huge waste, whoever is storing the stuff needs to let it be copied into a digital format and then sold, or put out for free on the internet, or whatever.

Some of those videos I posted are actually ABC's wide world of sports.

You guys have seen the 1966 US open of Crane v. Balsis right? That has been around for ever in great qaulity, And IIRC it is a 150 and out.

I don't know who has it but I remember seeing Willie Mosconi playing in a major event from the 40's or 50's that was shown in kinescope (b&w).

I saw it on TV in the 70's.

I found this in a thread from 2007 regarding Mosconi footage.

(I believe the story is that there was a fire in a warehouse that stored much of the film of Mosconi. I think that information came from Willie's wife. It's been awhile since I heard that, so I may have some details wrong. In any case, there supposedly was footage that had been destroyed.)
