Weekly Tournaments in the Washington, DC (Maryland, Virginia) area

I just discovered the Triple Nines tournament last week. 36 players last night and it's like that on a regular basis.

Here are the details:

Winner's side: 8-ball, race to 3, no three foul rule, loser breaks, rack for your opponent

Loser's side: 9-ball, race to 3, no three foul rule, loser breaks, rack for your opponent, 9 ball only counts on the break in the upper 4 pockets.

50 cent penalty if you scratch with the ball leaving the table. Money goes into a kitty that gets paid out at the end to the 5th place winner.

9-ball Big Rack with 5 tickets drawn. First ticket gets the chance for the biggest prize, with the other tickets getting successively smaller prizes.

Lots of good players, but it's not like the old Orange Ball weekly tournament in Rockville where you might have Brandon Shuff, Mike Davis, Ryan McCreesh, Manny Chau, Scott Tollefson and Brian Deska all show up in the same week. With the format Triple Nines has, any reasonably good player has a legitimate shot at getting in the money or even winning. And since the room's got a liquor license, it's likely to be around for awhile.

Oh, and the tables are all over the lot. All 9 ft. Brunswicks (not Gold Crowns), some with new cloth, some not so new, big pockets that are cut so that balls easily jar, some tables normal speed, others lightning fast. Overall pretty good.

One other thing: There's live music from 9 to 1 that can be deafening. Ear plugs are suggested as a backup.

The address is 7540 Washington Blvd, Elkridge, MD 21075

Phone 410-799-1818

It's on the outside of a strip mall, on the west side of U.S. 1, just a mile or so north of MD Rte. 175.

JAM used to post great writeups of the weekly tournament scene and I miss being able to find all that information for the DC area. With the closing of several pool rooms in the area, I've lost track of the current tournaments.

Please post in this thread any tournaments in the area you know of. Please include the normal details (location, game, races, entry fee, start time, typical size of field, etc.). Thanks!

I want to confirm that Bank Shots in Laurel is still open. This is where the APA does all of their regional tournaments. Don't know what weekly tournaments they do though.

Fast Eddies Fairfax is still open but now called Revolution Darts and Billiards. They are still doing the Sunday night 9-ball.

Thanks WileyDog for the link to http://findpooltournaments.com/. I found some tournaments there that are not listed above that I hope to check out at some point.

I just heard they are opening a "Fast Eddies" on Allentown Road, in the shopping center across from Andrews AFB.

I'll be checking it out soon.

I drove by there on Tuesday and there were cars in the parking lot.
Don't know if they are open yet.

Anybody know if the Thursday tournament at First Break still exists? It used to be a really great tourney with a lot of great players.

Do I bug you?

I haven't been there in about a month, but as far as I know it is still going. It was being run by Brandon Shuff.

It's changed to a short race to 3 (but no handicap), double elimination tournament (which I prefer).

The numbers haven't been that high and with summer here, they will probably be hovering around 12 people or so. I think that if they get 16 people they add $100.

Brandon was having a staggered entry for very low level (beginner or D) players so that maybe they pay only $10. I think Brandon, Deska, and other pros pay $20. Everyone else pays $15.

Probably best to message Brandon beforehand just to make sure that the tournament is happening on any given Thursday.

Dead around here. I think sterling thurdays are now some kind of league tourney. Not sure, just heard that. I'd call if I cared.

There's is a new Saturday day tourney at whetzels in manassas. 9' gold crowns. The format is in its early/ defining stages, another 'call before you drive' situmatioum.

Also a good- from what I hear- Saturday evening event at triple 9s in MD.
