Well, who won at Main St.?

Rude Dog

<---Dumb and Dumber
I couldn't have played any worse than I did this weekend at Main Street Billiards, but, that's what I always say when I don't win. I didn't have very high expectations because I never practice anymore but I do expect to run out once in awhile just because...................well, because I should. And, I should be able to win in a race to 7 and I'm up 6-2. But, I didn't. So, as I was walking away from the table I said to Jimmy Mendoza, who was playing on the winners side on a different table, " I can't win from 6-2, hide the fuckin' ropes!" Oh well, just thought I'd share that with everyone on here. So, anyway, who won the tournament? Peace, John.

Oh, well that match, I didn't miss a ball, never got out of line, and if I remember correctly, my opponent never got to the table. Who the hell was that guy anyway? :D

LOL....

I just found out from my friend Tony C. that he got second to the Freezer after knocking him into the losers side for the hot seat. My other friend Chris A. gets 9th-12th (after putting an end to my run in the losers side and knocking me out for the final 16 and a $$$$ spot)....Gus B. gets third..(I think)

Did you win a match on Sunday? I was so pissed after losing, I just walked out to my car, slammed the door, and drove the 4 plus hours to Kingman. I don't know why I take losing so bad these days, I never practice. How I even win 1 match these days is beyond me. It's really embarrassing to me to play the way I do these days. It's like I'm disrespecting the game or something to show up and play the way I play. Oh well, when's the next tournament so I can make an ass out of myself again? Peace, John.

You guys crack me up, as I saw some GREAT 9 Ball played Saturday. Stayed Home in Jurassic Park Sunday, to Play with a New Custom Break Cue. R & D time....:p

Think the guy that gave me the most INSPIRATION Saturday was an Older Gentleman, (Dressed in a Flag Shirt, Playing with a Sailor Cue) who apparently had PARKINSON'S DISEASE (The SHAKES).

He was playing a Younger Guy in the First Round, and lost 8 to 9. The Guy was playing well, even thought handicapped. Was hoping he would place in the Money Sunday....

The guy in the flag shirt was Rod "Babe" Thompson. Back in the day he was a straight pool champion that could easily run 100+ balls. Probably still could today....super nice guy also that still has a passion for the game.

Wish I had known you were going to be there, I would have said hi.

That guy plays well, even with those shakes he has. I saw the ending of that first match he had, whatta shame the way it ended. He fouled while shooting the 6 ball in the corner by moving another ball and the CB came back and hit it. Anyway, you're right Ken, there was some very good 9 ball played over the weekend but I am my own worst critic about my game. My wife tells me all the time that I'm too hard on myself, which is true, but I feel as though I should win every match I play as long as I get the opportunity, that is. And believe me, I had the opportunities to win both matches that I lost. Not to take anything away from the 2 guys that beat me, cuz they played well, but I did have my chances. And they were both very nice guys and I always hope for the guys that beat me will win the tournament so I can say it took the best to knock me out. Ha, my wife coulda beat me! :D Nice to meet you though Ken, it was a pleasure and my wife says to tell you hello and not to get so down on yourself next time you play. I guess she was doing some coaching on the sidelines, eh? So it's her damn fault that I didn't win, she told everybody to not give up.

I spoke with Rod "Babe" Thompson briefly after his first match that he lost as Rude Dog described. The guy was a gentleman, and must have a passion for the game, to still try as hard as he did to win with what appears to be Parkinson’s Disease.

I also admired his Sailor Cue he was playing with, and all the Mother of Pearl Ring Work.

Like I said I went over Saturday to watch better 9 Ball Player than I am. With Go Go juice at $2.69/Gal, and an 18/MPG Truck. it was well worth the Gas Spent to make the trip from Jurassic Park to see the level of play.

Think the only other money spent was for a Cold Drink....

I think you may have Bruce mixed up with BRKNRUN...BRKNRUN is Ken and Bruce is Bruce...(you replied to Bruce.....no sweat)

BTW...I knew I got a tough draw going into the match and who the better player was. That may have been part of the reason I lost......

Don't sweat your play too much...I know you did not play your best, but I saw some flashes of your (A) game on Saturday.....Jimmy was right....If your on your game, your easily one of the top 5 in AZ....

Please tell your wife I am not down on myself. I get frustrated by the outcome of getting out of line or taking overly aggresive shots, but I played some decent matches on the 1-loss side before losing a "freewhell" match to one of my friends (which always seems to happen with him)... so ...I am not too upset.....I feel like I can at least see the top of the hill at this point. I have only been back in the game for about 8 months with limited tournaments such as this weekend with real competition, and this is actually the first time I've taken getting better seriously. I figure once I iron out a few details of my game....like shotmaking, shape, kicks, banks, safes......oh and the break....I'll compete...... :D

My biggest disapointment was them not allowing Mark Tadd to play. I know its the "Arizona" all around, but I think if they would let out of state players in the field (like every other state) they could get 100 players easy....Mark is living in Az now anyway, but he was honest and told them he did not have a AZ ID yet.......That's what honesty gets you I guess....(and yes folks it was the real Mark Tadd... :D )

Hopefully next year they change the tour to Arizona Desert Series or something and let anyone in...

I would have loved to see Mark and Scott match up...Two world beaters in the same room and one is not allowed to play. I could see Mark just itching to get at a table...

I'm trying to work out the plans to go to cali this weekend...$70.00 for some good tournament experience...I am all for that...My friend got second yesterday, so it was pretty easy for me to talk him into going and splitting a room. :D

az. open all-around

 The tournament was awesome..It was truly an Arizona tournament as there were players from the entire state, including a handful from neighboring states that weren't allowed to participate..That is a problem, since a majority of the past state 9-ball champions were from different states..This format is ground-breaking and challenging from both a promoter and player perspective;so i am hesitant to be critical..We now have a true state 9-ball champion-Scott Frost-..My hope is that the players will continue to support these events and the promoters have the vision to realize that competion only leads to excellence..

Jimmy,I am so sorry to hear of your retirement..To be struck down in your prime is something I ,as well as Rude Dog can relate to;

Thanks for the info - glad to hear he is playing. Babe Thompson is a fantastic ambassador for pool - always the gentleman and double tough player. My wife and I also remember him for his past kindness to us.

All joking aside, I agree with you. This all-around thing might be the shot in the arm that pool needs in Arizona. I'm happy to see that the room owners, and the players, are showing some support for higher-level pool in this state. Hopefully these tournaments will pave the way for some even larger, open tournaments. I think that the support by the players so far shows that there are a lot of players in this state that do want to compete. It was unfortunate that Mark Tadd wasn't allowed to play, but since this thing is still new, they're still working to establish rules and so forth. Had it been up to me, of course, he would have been allowed to play, but I know that the decision was made in the interest of fairness to everyone since another player wasn't allowed to play in the last tournament for the same reason.

Well, if Rude Dog can come back and play again after the beating he took I suppose I can play in the next tournament. Hah! :D

We all pitched in $10 to bribe Mike to keep you out. *whew* It's bad enough losing to a guy that lost to a girl, but had I gotten beat by a poker player I might have REALLY quit for good.
