so there is no question about earls skills as everyone seems to fall back on it when he goes on tilt. but it has also been mentioned that perhaps he tries to get into his opponents head, well what do you think happened here, did he beat the guy or sharked him into submission.

Classic Earl. He's such a great player, but also such a great shark. Some view it as poor sportsmanship, while others think it's a gift. Personally, I just think he needs, no...craves attention. I believe he learned long ago, how to use his incredible skills at pool to put him on a stage where he can get the attention he desires. He talks as much to the crowd as he does his opponent, if not more so. Regardless, he's one of the best pool players ever, in my opinion.

Another Earl bashing post. The simple fact of the matter is, he'll keep doing it until the tournament directors decide to enforce unsportsmanlike like conduct and disqualify Earl and those that do the same thing.

I see Darren tried to reach the limits of tolerance recently and was disqualified.

Until this behavior is checked, lets not wonder why the public views pool players as cut throat people and poolrooms as a den of iniquity.

Earl cracks me up. You just have to ignore him when you play. I love watching him because you never know what he is going to do next.

two different opponents in that same clip. did he beat both?

Pro pool would be pretty dull if it was all played by guys like Ralf Souquet !!

With Earl its war...no holds barred!

Disagree - I think this is the very thing that makes TRUE promoters run away and the shysters come to manage circus side show.

Hockey isn't about the fights and pool isn't about the side show. Professional golfers don't yell "NOONAN!" during their opponent's putt and when you're on youtube after a TAR match pontificating about how you have more talent in your pinky and pool is harder than any other sport and pro golfers are babies, yet in the same breath explaining how you are the only one that ever makes a tough shot, everyone else gets the greatest rolls and on and on and on. Give it a rest, it is so old and so tired.

It all proves you lack anything close to professionalism, sportsmanship or even dignity. It makes you look as if you're missing something mentally, regardless of your ability to pocket a ball.

You're pushing pool to the ranks where our next match could be "elephant man" vs. "lobster boy", just pay $5.00 and step behind the curtain and see the freak show.

I think a player should have a lot of leeway when it's HIS shot.

Some people are chatterboxes (Mike Sigel comes to mind)....
...and it brings some color to the match...did you notice that the spectators
were very entertained by Earl's musings.

If Earl feels the need to talk when it's the OTHER player's shot...
....then it's time for the ref to haul out the gavel.

I've seen lots of good money sessions where no tempers were lost
and the conversation was continuous....but they only talked when
it was their turn at the table.

I dunno if Earl ever sets out to shark intentionally.

Like "hmm, if I start rambling about the bad rolls, I can get the other guy distracted
and he might miss his next shot. Then I can beat him easily."

I think he just says whatever shit comes into his head, without any filter,
and if it ever occurred to him that his words might bother an opponent and cause them to play bad,
his mindset is "well if that happens, who cares? Tough titties."

@ Cracktherack: Not another "earl bashing thread". If a question about a player and his behavior.

@ takeitdown: Disagree, see comment below

@ TCo: Well said, was gonna say the same thing

@ pt109: 50/50. A player should be able to say what he wants or do what he wants for the most part when it's his turn at the table, but there still has to be some kind of conduct about it and how it affects your opponent. Also, I think it's a matter of laughing at you, not with you when people laugh at Earl and his behavior.

IMHO

First offense is a warning.

Second offense is BIH

Third offense is disqualification.

If you want to talk to the crowd while it's your shot, that's fine. But you don't talk to your opponent nor talk during your opponent's shot.

I'm an Earl Fan based on his ability...but I loved it when 15-year old Landon Shuffett ignored all of Earl's antics and beat him handily.

Earl needs pool a lot more than pool needs Earl.
