I hate it when people call them Adams.. it is Adam cues

It just shows a total total lack of respect for Richard Helmstetter's years of hard work in building such an expansive inexpensive import business in the billiards industry. Adam is not Adams ..... Sheesh!. Just kidding! LOL.


I have been wanting to say this for years. Now, I did it.


I also realize that by placing (cues) in the statement you are still correct or by leaving it off completely with the plural of Adam being Adams.

Hmmm, I didn't noticed it. I thought it were real inlays. But your right, it's only decals. If it got real inlays, I would consider to buy one. But decals is a big no no for me.

I am currently a retailer for Adams cues, and I will say this the cues in the link you provided are not really good quality. I have sold a number of them (40 or 50) and I find the quality to hit and miss. However, you get what you pay for, and these cues are not expensive by any means.

Here is another link to the Billiards Warehouse with a different listing of Adams cues. These are a little more expensive, however, they are also very good quality and in my opinion well worth what the above company is selling them for.

I also think that the Billiards Warehouse is the Best on-line company to due Business with. They have good prices and their service after the sale can't be beat!!!

You might want to look at some of the more expensive models, as manwon suggested. I can remember when Adam was real popular for the money and the quality wasn't bad, either.

Back in the early 7o's, I bought an "Adams" for Cindy. We still have it...a solid walnut stain back half, (maybe real walnut? Mohogany? I dunno) blue nylon wrap...the tip has a red cushion under it. I figure it's well worth the $25 I paid for it back then. Today? Cindy prefers playing with her all maple, linen wrapped, Jacoby...

All this said to say I do believe there is a difference between "Adams" and "Adam"...tho her old cue did have a tiny gold foil sticker with a lion logo....that now long gone.

(edit) A question to those more up on the subject than I: Are we talking Japanese made (early 70's) and Taiwan made (today) cues? Adams vs. Adam???

To my knowledge, there has never been an "Adams" cue company. If memory serves me, Adam Cues were made in Japan under the direction of Richard Helmstetter.

Helmstetter is a good, so is the new Bushka's whitch are very well made, Adams are good for the money, no doubt, the shafts arent bad and they have a solid hit, They need some help in the looks dept, but if you like the look, they are worth the money.. As good as a FURY NR? I dont think so, but if you do there isnt anything wrong with that..

this is gonna go back into the helmstetter, adams, raymond calvert and one other name. I have NEVER met anyone who can tell me about cues that are signed 1989 Raymond Calvert. Some say he was a fake person that was made up, others say that he did make a few cues before selling the rights off. All I know is that my friend and I both have Raymond Calverts and have both been offered a decent penny for them, but have yet to sell due to nothing being able to be found about them.

The cues I have had come through my retail store all appeared to be real in all respects. I would doubt very much that upper end cues coming out of the Adam / Hemstetter cue Company would have decal inlays. The shaft wood on the cues I received was also very straight grained, and free of detracting marks, unlike the lower end cues that started this thread which are decal inlays. This cue are as good as any of the Balabushka series cues they also produce. My favorite is the AH-12, and the cues I had with the reversed Ebony Veneered splices were really nice. The only issue for any models off the rack for some people may be the shaft size. The shafts on these cues are kinda straight tapered and around 13.2 to 13.3 mm at the tip. But a bigger shaft is not really an issue because it can be easily be re-tapered.

I'm not really interested in an expensive cue. I just want to buy a cheap good looking cue (with something like veneers) without decals. Throw the standard shaft away and put a Z-shaft on it.
