What do you think of this?

Secrets

....The few tattoos I have are not out in the open. I have a couple on my leg and one on my arm but higher up. All the tattoos are not visible when wearing plain clothes. People can only see them when I want them too....

You don't have to comment back on this. I just felt like I had to toss a comment at you to let you know that I think you're quite smart with the hidden tattoo thing. If you must have them, what about a job? Some folks won't hire people as quickly if they have tattoos. Doesn't matter if you're military, or not. Some people won't even deal with a person who has tattoos. It may be discriminatory, but it's a fact of life. I won't eat at a restaurant if I see a waitress with a tongue or lip ring that keeps her mouth moving. IT's just plain sick! I don't like tattoos, either, but at least one of our kids has one. He was smart and put it on his upper shoulder, where a shirt sleeve would hide it. Excuse me. He got another one on his other shoulder, so he has 2, now.

Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate you for having a brain about the tattoos. I may not agree with having one, but I believe the ultimate decision is up to the person who will be "stuck" with it and you have been very smart about yours.

Having said all that, I'm not up on what will blur or won't, but these guys seem to know what they're talking about and as cute as the little 8 ball guy is, he's a little hard to figure out without blurring. If you decide to use that one, you need to have a big version of it put on your belly, so it will "grow" if you ever get a pot belly. :D

Seriously, colors and more clarity are better on a tattoo. Good luck with what you decide. (Your friend is a good artist.)

I like the idea, but I agree with the other people that it would need to be cleaned up to look good as a tattoo. Can't most good tattoo artists do that anyways though?

It is your body, do what you think is right, I would also look down the road a bit, ask yourself, will I want this tattoo 10 years from now, or will I want something else, like I said, do what you want, good luck, I like the drawing, but it seems a little dark to me, but I don't know anything about tattoos.

I was watching the world series of poker one time and there was a small break from play to talk about Poker tattoos. They had some people on their showing theres but one of the things that really struck me was one of the seasoned pros (D. Negraneau I think) saying something like this...

"I think if you look at the group of the best players in the world, not one of them has a poker tattoo:

another guy followed up by saying,

"The instant you see a guy with a poker tattoo, you know they have no game whatsoever"

I actually found the youtube clip of this segment:

I think it applies to pool rather nicely as well... just my opinion... nothing wrong with tattoos, I have 3 myself... but none are pool related :D

Oh by the way the pic is my avatar.

How about this? All of those that aren't into tattoos and don't understand why anyone would want a tattoo, leave that debate for somewhere else? I assume the OP is fully competent to make the decision of getting a tattoo. If not, this forum isn't the place to convince him otherwise.

Anyway, to the OP, if you like the subject matter of your avatar-tattoo idea, take it to a respectable tattoo artist. He/she will know what to do with it. I agree that the dominant blackness is going to make the details that you seem to like quite subdued if not completely hidden.

Good luck.

Tatoos don't look very good after 25 years FWIW.
I think this has to do with the tattoo artist, the subject matter, and the skin. Too deep and they blur; too shallow and they fall out. 25 years ago, there weren't but 10 competent tattoo artists in our country. Fortunately today, most of those skills and techniques in execution have been passed on to a higher number of tattooists.

So, as long as the OP goes to someplace that has a good reputation, he should be fine. If he goes to a back room in anycity, USA, he might not have such a good time.

To me the tatoo would look like it's representing the 8 ball beating you because it's eating the stick. The second feeling I get is that you dogged the 8 and broke your stick becuase of it. Either of them are pretty bad because 8 ball isnt exactly the most difficult game on the planet. It's like getting a cut-throat game tatoo.

I do like the 10 ball tatoo the guy mentioned earlier as that's a much more difficult game and for someone to easily recognize 10 ball then they have to at least know a little about the game as opposed to 8 ball where it's far more common to every bar player.

Luckily, you didn't have it done by someone that posts on AZB, or it might have turned out to read SMUC ............
Doug
( or MUCS or CUMS......... you get the picture ) :)

I've been getting people's addresses from the poker room tattooed on my arm, so that I can visit my money...

I support the other views ,it might be too dark. There are peolpe that can make it work though. Now for the main point,I don't know you and your game but I would make sure you have some game before you put it on.I know someone that has gotten a pool tat and he can't run three balls in a row,and the tat IMO puts a mark on you as a player.I myself would see the tat and think your a player and would target you for a game.I my self have a ten ball tat with a dollar sign as the shinny sparkle point in the ball.It has gotten me plenty of games and has broke me on occasion also.Good luck in your decision.

Just because you have an 8 ball or 9 ball tattooed on you doesn't mean that you can play, and doesn't mean that people would want to play you. That is like saying because you have a $3000 cue people will want to play you. I have seen several people that spend thosands on a cue, and can't shoot a lick.

Now your tattoo with the $ sign in it, yea that is a little cocky and I can see why people would want to take your money. I have had my tattoo of a shark swimming around an 8 ball for about 3 or 4 years now, and most people just come up and tell me how cool it looks. Doesn't matter whether they can or can't beat me.

However this guy said his other tattoos only show if he wants them to show. What makes you think this tattoo will be any different? Mine is only visible if I choose to wear something to show it off. I am pretty sure this guy will do the same thing.

I like the 9-ball with flames coming off it. Hell I might get one myself if my body promises me its through shrinking. Johnnyt

I don't think it would make a good one. I haven't seen anything I thought would make a good tattoo.

The Love/Hate thing is neat. I think I'd rather wear the Love side and let the Hate side be the reflection, though.

What happens if you turn your shirt inside out?

When I was a kid, some of the tough guys would go to prison and come out with tatoos self applied on the tops of their knuckles of each finger, so that when they made a fist you would read LOVE on one hand and HATE on the other. With that font, they could have just carried a mirror around with them and just tattoed one hand. :D

Tatoos are not to my liking. Mine is located on the shoulder and I can wear a short sleeve shirt without it being seen. It isn't very attractive after all these years but I didn't get it because I wanted it to be attractive a gazillion years later.

Many of my buddies, were getting the serious tatoos, dagger, heart, death without dishonor, marine corps globe/anchor etc on their forearms.
Thank God I passed on that one. :D

My .02

I have seen 3 tatoos I liked in my life. A guy that had an 8 ball on one shoulder and an eye ball on the other one and my old friend Donald "Wildman" Brighem with the US PRIME stamp on his azz.
Purdman
Personally, I have none. I chose scars instead.

Getting a pool tattoo is one sure fire way of killing your action. I know a guy who got a nine ball rack tattoo on his arm has regretted it ever since for the reason stated above.

I like it, but I think it has too much black all smushed together. It might be hard to see and understand, especially after some time has passed.

any good tattoo artist would agree, that pic isnt a good tatoo, its cool but not in 20 years it will just be all black,

That picutre is hidious. I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm telling you straight out; you have better not put that on yourself.

Start by visiting a respected tatteroo artist and have him draw something for you. He knows what he/she can do, most of them have art degrees and can out draw anybody you know, and most of the time, they'll even tell you that your drawing sucks and they won't put it on you.

Not that I'm a tatteroo expert or anything, but I do sport a full-sleeve; get away from "friends' drawings" and paint-by-number designs.

Just to let everyone know. I am good personal friends with a person that has done tattoos and peircings for years. The inks and equip they use today, tattoos last lots and lots of years. I got a pink floyd tattoo almost ten years ago and another person with some tats said "hey how long ago did you get that?" I told him almost ten years and he was suprised it was so bright and he couldn't believe it.

Anyhow, I could always have something redrawn. I thought up the idea of the eight ball eating a stick and I still like that idea but it could change a little. I do have piercings too and if I go to a job interview I take them out.

When I start the job I ask if I can have them. I worked at a convenience store and they didn't want me to wear them. I also worked for Xerox. Yes that huge fortune 500 company and they let me wear them at work. No I didn't work as a janitor or a dock man, I worked as a contract engineer. The world is changing and tats and piercings are becoming more accepted.

My friend does tattoos and piercing for lawyers and doctors. Of course these can be easily hidden, as mine can, so that they may work in a professional environment and only show them off when they, or I, want to.
