Depends on what cue you have. If you use Mezz, Predator, Tiger or Cuetec. You can buy a extension, where the only modification you have to do is the change the bumper.
If you have another brand or a custom, the best solution is to have your local cuemaker fix it for you.

Hager extensions are great with all of their netting inside, however, they are not real easy to find and when you do, typically, they are expensive (over $50) due to short supply and demand.

I had a Hager and to be honest, while it did the job and never put my cue butt in and danger of damage, I found it to be too large in the hand, like you were holding a vacuum cleaner wand.

I bought a Tony Ryan and it's been perfect. The feel, look, quality and performance are all excellent.

I read where a couple of guys had problems with the Tony Ryan where the material that is inside to protect the cue has come loose and needed a reglue but mine has never had this problem.

I'm sure there's others out there that do a good job but I'm sold on the Ryan.

Anything that slips over the butt of the cue will wear on the cue finish. However, some may be less abrasive than others. I've found that the aluminum extensions with the "drill chuck" ends will wear on the cue faster than the slip on compression fit extensions.

That being said, I'd opt for a screw in type extension if possible.

I use a Longoni...

A friend of mine bought it for me in Kansas City.............
Doesn't hurt the cue at all. it tightens on the shaft as you twist it within itself. Works great.

I picked up the Tony Ryan as well, and loved it except for what I perceived as a critical (but easily remedied) design flaw: while the butt of a typical sized cue goes in easily enough, the foam padding makes a seal such that there is a powerful vacuum created that makes it very difficult to remove it (this was with a 'typical' size butt (a Schon)). I actually found that the resistance to the pressure of removal caused some of the lining to rub off onto the buttcap (though that was removed reasonably easily).

I found that drilling a very small (1/8") pilot hole through the side of the extender, all the way at the back of its cavity, in no way impeded its grip on the cue and also made it much easier to remove (now pulling it out sounds like softly uncorking a wine bottle).

It could be just that the one I received had a production issue, but if you have that problem as well the above should take care of it easily.

All of the above notwithstanding, it works like a champ.

How good are Balance Rite's? I realize it's going to throw off the balance but these look much easier on the cue.

Sorry Pete for asking in your thread but it seems silly to start a new thread about extensions when I'm looking for the same thing. :)

I agree, my Hagar is good. The only downside is the increased diameter of the extension. If you can't get an extension which screws into the butt of the cue then Hagar is a good option.

I just had josh treadway make this 6" extension for me..threads in the butt end obviously...works great uploadfromtaptalk1418670011107.jpg
