What's The Best Cue Deal You Feel You've Ever Made

Lots has been said on the cost, value, worth thread; I was wondering what some of you consider is the best buy or value you have gotten from a cue deal? The cousins cue I bought was probably the best playing cue I could have gotten for the price, The scruggs is worth the most money, and My Kikel is my favorite to play with because of balance and feel. Interested in what you folks think of your deals

I have made a lot of great buys on cues over the years. The best one this year has to be the 15 year old un-chalked - un-played Scruggs s/p I got from a friend last week for $200. Not because of the $ value but from the age and collectability side of it (and I'm giving it to a buddy for Christmas).

Over twenty five years ago, when Jimmy Rempe shot with and was a player rep for Adams Cues, he was manning their booth during the World 14.1 Championships and I was checking out some of the cues on display. He knew I was acquainted with several of the top pros, and as I walked away, he commented "I've got some more cues in my room." As it turns out, they were used cues that he'd played with but had stopped using. He took me up to his hotel room, and I ended up buying a superb Adams cue that Jimmy used to shoot with for just $75. A great cue and a great value.

Nobody can top this "deal"

Worth every bit of the ten dollars spent;

I picked up a late 70's Tim Scruggs cue along with the original Kelli Case in 1997 for $175. I paid Tim $150 to have it refinished and rewrapped. Tim sent me the original brochure showing the cue and all the options.

I am not sure of the original date it was made, but per Tim, it was before he had a dedicate machine for cutting points.

The Kelli case I would say is worth about $300? $250? today and the cue $1200 maybe?

Not a bad deal.

Joss West in a Fellini case.

In the late 70s I had my eye on this cue for a while and it’s current owner “Slick” would not sell. Slick didn’t work but had a string of ladies around town, when one would kick him out another would take him in for a while. Well anyway one day I was in the U of I student union playing and here comes Slick. I knew something was up because he didn’t spend much time around school. Turns out he had to leave town NOW and needed the money.

He took $200 ...never saw him again.

How much for that cue?

I had a buddy that had a Hagan cue. Awesome player.

I told him I wanted cue before he sold it. In a time of frustration I suppose, he called me and told me he was ready to sell cue. I asked him how much and he said $600.

He came down and I looked at cue, and I said okay. Then he goes, its a package so it came with a SouthEast sneaky pete, a brunswick snooker cue with ivory joint, a George 3X6 case. Eventually I sold the "package" for $600 which made me getting the Hagan cue for free. Eventually I sold the Hagan for $1000.

Best deal I ever got on cue,

Ken

I think I bought a Balabushka off of AZ for under $800. Most don't think so, but I got offered a few thousand dollar James White cue even up, by someone who owns some Bushkas.

Ditto. Bigoted usage of language has no place here on the forum.

Well, this 1 will be sorta long....when at the US OPEN a couple of years ago hanging out with w friend who is a collector, he took in trade a real nice and pretty espiritu cue. Before i left to come home he asked me if i wanted that cue. told him i could not afford it. He says just take it and if you ever sell it i want 300.00 for it. i agree and take the cue home, after playing with it for a couple of months a friend notices it and asks me if i would like to sell it. I said sure. $450.00, which he promptly pays. so i send my friend the original owner that gave the cue to me and paid him the 300 he has asked for. Now about a month later the new buyer is ordering a cue from another cue maker and sells it back to me for only 250.00. Now i feel that i am up a few hundred bucks and everybody is happy. and i have the cue again. now when he does get his new cue back he calls me up and wants me to go to his house. when i get there he hands me back the original espiritu cue that he had bought off of me and proceeds to tell me it is mine to keep free and clear......now, about a month later he has to send his new cue back for some minor repairs to the maker, and yup, you got it. now he wants to buy it back for $300.00 as he has no other cue. Again, when his new cue gets back from repairs he calls me up again and only says. thanks for being there for me when i needed you. Here, take this cue back again.....it had me totally lost going back and forth. but anyway, i do have the cue and its value right now has to be maybe $900.00 or so used..........................mike

The worst part about it is that he probably has no idea how offensive it is, and thought nothing of making a comment like that.

The ebony / ebony Paradise shown on Marks collection page was an ebay find. With a buy it now of 2k. When it was originally listed it was 3k and no pic. I had e-mail correspondence with the owner and said for that kind of money he needed to show pics. I guess lowering the price was just a bonus. :)
I also bought a model 20 Palmer from ebay for 800.00 due to horrendous pics. After a restoration by Buss, the cue sold for around 3k. These were all when ebay was in it's infancy and the amout of buzzards was limited. :)

JV (---I won't even mention the titlist Szamboti cause its actively for sale :)

Scored a Balabushka in the mid 80's at my grandmothers 55+ and older community rec room for $125.00. The man said he would sell it to me for what he paid for it, I never argued one bit. The cue was straight, fat and butt heavy but it was almost nick-free and the wrap was perfect. He threw in a original Brunswick flip-top leather case, also in mint condition.

I picked up an Adam in @1970 for $20 in a poolroom. The guy wanted $30 but I only had $20 on me. It is a truly beautiful cue and in use today by my girlfriend.

I bought my Scruggs SP barely used for $125. The guy had a second one that was unchalked that he wanted $150 for, and I'm still kicking myself for not buying it when I had the chance.
