Where's GreyGhost?

He might be out on a rig in the gulf, or he's just taking a breather from here.

I wonder...do they have pool tables on those rigs?

On the rare occasion yes......but never saw one i wanted to play on, they are all terrible.

Just been real busy with work....and taking a break lol, not much time to do anything much else with the hectic schedule.

What a few do have that i like to play on is PING PONG tables.......I'm the reigning ping pong champion in the Gulf of Mexico shelf lol.....tho i hear those deep water boys can play pretty savy :)

Best wishes,

Greyghost--I am thinking that I read somewhere that you ARE or are associated with Joel Weinstock in some way? Is this true?

The only reason I ask is I just received a Weinstock cue in a trade, seems very well constructed, very nice looking cue & plays good. Its a little fat for my taste so I will probably be selling it & was just wanting some information & history on Joel...both for my personal knowledge & when potential buyers ask me "WHO?" I have done a search on here & google & just cant find all that much info on him. When did he start, did he apprentice with anyone or learn it on his own, Is he still building, is he taking orders, etc......

Thanks for any info,
KT

I'll be getting my new Robot soon. BTW I play table tennis not ping pong. I should be back to a table -2 player by mid winter. I bounce between table 1 and 2.

Maybe we can hit a few some day?

Here's a link to the Robot.

Fenwick, I detect a little sensitivity to the use of the term ping pong. I've seen this once in a while from others and was wondering what the deal is. I just always thought it was sort of like saying pool instead of pocket billiards but some people react as though you used the "N" or "C" words.

Is ping pong considered a derogatory term or something, because certainly it isn't meant that way by the people who call it that. I wonder if it goes back to trying to get into the Olympics and wanting a more serious, athletic sounding name attached to the sport.

Thanks.

Mitchell...Mosconi detested the word 'pool', and always called it pocket billiards. To quote Jack White: "Pool is played in a den of iniquity! Pocket billiards is played in 'high class' places like this!" LOL

He's been building cues out of Tulsa OK, off and on since the 80's. He learned from Verl Horn and David Kershenbrok tho neither were extended apprenticeships like I got to spend about 5years with joel. (plus everything that he's done/learned on his own) Builds his own CNC's and last time i talked to him he had something like 30+ cues in the works.

I believe he may be the longest standing cue maker out of Tulsa? Unless if John Parker of Auerback is still kicking around, then he'd be #2. He is taking orders give him a ring at 918-744-1808 if you would like to speak to him personally, just tell him Keebie sent ya.

I havent made any cues in a few minutes BUT, I made a duck call today and its pretty dam cool and loud as all heck :) just in time for the season.

best wishes,

What happened to John Guffy, the cuemaker out of OKC? He was a friend (and sometimes competitor) of mine back a long time ago. He made some damn good playing cues in the 70's and 80's. That much I know. I wish I still had the Guffy cue I won in OKC a million years ago. The guy who owned the bar put it up as a prize and it was my first ever bar table tournament. I wanted that cue and I got it.

He sold the business Jay.
My first wooden cue was a JG I bought at Best Billiards.
I still wish I kept it .
