Which game do you like the best, 9 ball, 10 ball, 8 ball, or 1 Pocket/14-1? And why?

Meaning just what the questions ask you! Which is your favorite game to play in pool, 8 ball, 9 ball, 10 ball, 1 Pocket, or 14-1? If you like all of them there is still one that you like the best! I appreciate your input. Thank you.

I like and play all of them. I probably play 10 ball more than any other though. I get great satisfaction out of moving the cue ball around the table. I think it's fun and satisfying being able to execute the precise control over the balls necessary to run racks. I also like 14.1, for different reasons. It's more like solving a puzzle, and I appreciate that aspect.

I liike

8, 9, and 10 ball, although 10 ball isn't played much here except in ring games. I seem to do best in 8 ball, as far as tournament wins. I play 9 ball tournaments too and gamble in 9 ball.

I used to play 1 pocket, but don't think I have the patience for it anymore.
I shot a lot of straight pool when I was young, but haven't played it for years.

I like one hole the best.

One hole is the only realy pool game you can learn things by just watching two great players.....like Frost or Efren for example. Yes, you still have to excecute the moves when it comes time to play, but just seeing the moves can be very beneficial. It is much much more than just pocketing balls....as a matter of fact some great moves don't even involve pocketing a ball at all. It is a game that will continually challlenge a player to learn new strategies and moves. The other thing I really like is the fact there is no ball in hand for fouls that in other games results in an easy run out. No matter the foul (of course unless it's a scratch) you gotta play the ball where it sits. I guess I'm a guy that likes strategy games and this is the best one I've every played.

Hey Snapshot, you are supposed to mellow with age and get more patient. Lord knows I have over the years. I used to be the most impatient, hot tempered jackass that probably walked the planet when I was younger. :D

I prefer banks, then 14.1 then one pocket, then the rotation games. Seems like most folks around here are big on 8 ball.

This has changed over the years, when I was a young man I loved 9 ball. Then I learned one pocket and banks. Now that I have my own table I usually play 14.1 by myself or banks with the ghost.

My favorite game to play is Straight Pool. It teaches the most overall skill set that a player needs to learn. After that I like to play in the following order of prefernce:

8-Ball
1 Pocket
9-Ball Banks
9-Ball
Snooker (When I can find a table this moves upto the 2nd place position)

Which Game

In ascending order of having learned them from my youth onward. Straight Pool,Rotation 1-15,9-Ball & 8 Ball,Banks(Full Rack),One Pocket, and the rest of those other pool games.

Growing up in North Louisiana, you had to contend with a bunch of odd fellows coming through and playing for $1-$2 games.

Whatever it takes to ease their pain,my good friend. When they ask for such weight,I recommend they should practice more,so we may play even. This way, they will be pleased that they only lost,...by a small margin.:D

Good Point

14.1 is the mother game every other game is a small subset of straight pool skills
softshot, there is wisdom in your words. This one tree bears much fruit. One of the most overlooked is the aspect of Banking in Straight Pool. Because it is employed so seldom,it helps you evaluate the best percentage and types of Banks. This way, when playing Bank Pool, your confidence is very high, and you will have less apprehension at the decision process. The applications to One Pocket are self evident throughout the game of Straight Pool.

In Straight Pool practice, I encourage students to play 30 and 50 No Count.
