Golf IMO... No matter how well you play, it is a new experience each time you play a different course.

Pool; 6 holes, 7,8,9 footers... 1:2 width x length on all of them.
Not much difference with good Air Conditioning.

Is your question really... Is it more difficult to achieve pro-level in golf or in pool?

If that is your question I'd say they are pretty equal... both require excellent hand/eye coordination and precise muscle memory.

If I had to make a choice, I'd say Golf... simply because of the number of clubs to master vs. a pool player using one cue for the vast majority of shots taken during a match.

Also, golf is played in natural conditions like uneven terrain, wind and rain while pool is played indoors on a level surface.

But... all in all... it's a toss up imo.

It is not even close IMO. Pool is played on a fixed and small surface. While pool requires more focus because of the time that can be spent at the table, golf requires more speed and muscle movement. Everything has to come together even though it is only for a moment.

Golf...

You've got wind direction, downhill, uphill, sand, rough....you deal with all the elements, while also using almost every muscle in your body in each shot....the average hole takes you the length of 4 football fields, landing on surfaces less than a 1/3 the width of a football field....you get 4 shots to hit a small ball into a small hole that is 400 yards away....

I've seen many a banger run a rack of 9 ball (including me).....I have yet to see a hacker shoot par on 9 holes....

Pool. There's no margin for error in pool. Plus, I'm sick of hearing golf announcers saying how much pressure is on this putt!? OOOOOOOo.....sooo much pressure lol. They miss thier putt, they get 58th place and earn a 80k paycheck and go back to your posh mansion in Malibu. Pool on the otherhand....you miss that 9 ball and you're sleeping in your car and eating cracker ketchup sandwiches. Tell me who has more pressure??

Pool or golf?

I have run 50 at straight pool,9 racks of 9 rock on a 4 1/2 x 9, 107 on a 5x10 snooker table.I carried a 8 handicap in golf. I love both games, but IMHO; golf is harder to play.
There are so many variables, mental & physical. I know several golfers that are good pool players as well. Both are GREAT!games. Thats my 2 cents.

There can't possibly be anything new to say by way of a serious attempted answer to this thread question. Punch "golf?" into the search function re thread titles and you'll find about a dozen recent previous threads on the same question, each containing lots of answers.

You are kidding right?
You say no margin for error? Then what the hell is SLOP doing in the biggest of pool games?
What to know why pool players are eating cracker ketchup sandwiches? Because pool players/promoters would cheat their own mother to get an extra $100 even if it brings the game down with them.
Golf set up rules (that most follow), they have a tour (not 15 tours), they all work together to make the game bigger and better, the players know they are not bigger than the game (will never happen in pool), I could go on and on.
What to know what I’m sick of, people who complain that there is no money in pool and then go to a league or a tournament and sandbag or cheat. Even the pros show little respect for the game. Earl cheating CW on national TV or John S leaving because he lost the first round to play golf to name a few huge “are you kidding me” moments of recent years.
Uggg, sorry for my rant, but don’t blame golfers if they get 80k after missing a putt, a putt that is usually being watched by tens of millions around the world. What is the most people watching any pool event at one time? Way more pressure then pool.

On the question of which it is harder to achieve pro level on, it's got to be golf for the simple reason that so many more are trying to achieve pro level at golf. Many more are trying at golf because the rewards are so much greater.

No, I most certainly am not kidding. I believe pool is a harder game and I play both.

There's no slop in golf?? I understand there're weather changes, but everyone has to adapt to them. There're way more exuses to have for sucking in golf then there are for pool.

the question should be

which is harder to make living at pool or golf. its pool hands down.

in golf a decent pro who never wins anything on a small tour might win a couple hundred thousand.

in pool you have to be a top 20 stand out world beater with many wins to keep your head above water.

the hardest to make it at is pool no doubt.

golfs a harder game but pool is the hardest to not have a sidejob at trust me i know.

I have played both games for several years and I believe that golf is harder to be consistent at (conditions, different courses, many moving body parts...), but I believe the pressure shows up more in pool than it does in golf. It seems to me that when you are playing good golf the muscle memory almost takes care of everything for you and you just do not really succumb to the pressure. The hard part about pool is you do not always have control of your destiny, if your opponent is running rack after rack you cannot control it, or if your opponent is missing and hooking you over and over you cannot control that either and you have to be mentally strong enough to deal with both of those situations. The good thing about golf is your opponent has no bearing on your ability to have an opportunity to win. Just my two cents on the matter.
