Who is considered the greatest living cueist right now?

Positively Ralf

I'm sure the usual names like Ronnie, Ceulemans, Reyes and Strickland would be mentioned, but is there a generally agreed upon name who the diehard cue fans all deem as the best living cueist? Or are there too many factors across the different cue disciplines to really say who is the greatest?

The greatest in any sport or game is an on going debate.
I don't think there will ever be a unanimous greatest.

Define 'cueist'? Too many different games. I think you'd have to go by the game and not just one overall player.

I'd vote for Ronnie. If not him, whoever the best snooker player at the moment gets my vote.

How about the best 3c players, Chinese 8ball'rs or Russian Pyramid specialists? My point is answering this question is hard if not impossible.
Yessir, very subjective. I LOVE watching snooker. These guys make me want to quit playing because of how friggin good they are.

I agree. The top Chinese 8b players also play at a level that's just tough to believe. You have to name the best per discipline imo. As to snooker i really wish the pros would play a few 6-red ball events. The games go a lot quicker. Some of the full-rack games are just too long for me to watch.

The best cueist is not necessarily the best player....lots of better looking strokes around than Efren or Nick....
....but they couldn’t beat them.

Currently, I believe the top snooker players are playing their game at high standard than anyone else. Impossible to measure and prove, but given how much money is in snooker, the amount of coaching and structure, it could be true. So my answer would be either Ronnie or Judd Trump.

I think this could change if pool saw a similar pro revolution just based on how many players there are world wide.

Ronnie playing snooker when he’s in gear is just beyond amazing. He pots balls like it’s a Valley Barbox.

Efren was just lucky.

This question is not answerable “the best” the 2 I just mentioned might be the 2 most gifted in the broadest sense of the spectrum. The word “best” kind of limits things and is narrow.

Phiophically speaking of course

This thread should have asked who is the greatest active cueist. If so I would have put up Joshua Filler even though he still needs time to mature.. His potential is really going to be something to watch as he gets older.. IMO!

Cueist as in ‘cue action’. A lot of pro Snooker players would say Shaun Murphy. Not to be confused with best Billiard Player.

Best at billiards

Mark Selby
Judd Trump
Neil Robertson
John Higgins
Ronnie O'Sullivan
Shaun Murphy
Kyren Wilson
Mark Williams
Mark Allen
Stuart Bingham

Same as above; if cueist refers to cue action, then it’s Ronnie or Murphy. Ronnie’s timing is ridiculous. Everything peaks at exactly the right moment, even when he’s using his left hand. The amount of work he gets on the cueball with minimal effort is a league above everyone else. And Murphy is called the man with a “Rolls Royce cue action” for a reason.

Ronnie playing a left-handed deep screw into the green pocket, between pink and black, to continue a 147 (I don’t have the words to express how ridiculous this shot is):

Quinten Hann's ban ruined his career and he could have made this list (meanwhile Higgins received a slip on the wrist for his gambling debacle....(*shakes head*)

My list includes Efren, Earl, Ronnie, Judd

personally I exclude carom players, talent pool is just not large enough imo, should we ever have a chance to see one of the current top guys try their hands at pool or snooker I would reconsider
