Buddy Hall comes through Jackson, Miss and stops in the local action pool room. Everyone in the place knows him and refuses to match-up with him. Having been on the road many times with good players myself, I tell Buddy I will play you some, even, for $1 a game, knowing Buddy has a nut to fade and figuring it would be a good education for me.
The whole time we are playing Buddy is trying to get me to raise the bet, Knowing that I know him and stipulating that I was only going to give him $20. Occasionally I win a game and this makes Buddy scream louder to raise the bet, jokingly but still wanting to get this over ASAP. Buddy is on the hill, I'm $19 stuck and I win that game. Every player in Jackson is watching by this time and Buddy yells, "You won't play for more than a dollar a game, they ought to call you the "$Bill".
So, for the next 35 years I have been known as $Bill
