Why do very few pros ever offer advice on AZB?

There are a few pros that post on AZB from time to time but you SELDOM see them offering any pool tips on the Main Forum.


I was wondering why you thought this was so.

Do you think their chiming in from time to time would help expand their fan base or simply open them up to mean-spirited criticism?

I think thats the exact reason, and I don't blame them......

Not only that, but it's obviously hard to give anything but extremely general or vague advice without seeing someone, or at least having a table handy. And there is only (correct me if I'm wrong here) a couple of pros that post other than to woof.

Mean spirited criticism and constant reminder of a situation some person saw where their advice didnt work for them.

" Hey Earl, that really worked for you in that match against Varner in June of 1991 didnt it??"

There are always THOSE types of guys hanging around...lol.

i've lurked forever here, registered about a year ago, and just started posting. it seems like whenever a pro posts anything - anything at all 95% - 99% of the responses are supportive and thankful. then one guy always says something stupid. thats all it takes.

harriman gets raked over the coals roughly once a month give or take a month, for example. he just got done with an instructional DVD, and his religious beliefs are somehow the new topic, after someone pitched a fit about the cover and package presentation. can you blame him if he doesn't want to wade through the bullsh** every time he tries to do anything for the sport? but he keeps coming back, and danny for that i'm thankful.

i'm not saying just because you are a pro, you are untouchable, but man somethings are just uncalled for sometimes. like the thread where someone took a cheap shot at john schmidt's girlfriend. wtf?

Its sad that this is the best forum and website for pool hands down in the world and some of the best players have been driven out by some bad apples and nits.When I see a pro come on here I wonder how long they will last because its a tough forum,I like to say if you can make here you can make it anywhere.

Nick Varner told me when he couldn't hold a cue again, he would write a book and be rich. Do you really think they are going to give people FREE advice?

And, as harshly as that was worded, I believe there is some truth to it.


Of course, another reason could be that they're too busy playing pool to hang out in an online forum talking about playing pool.

It's highly doubtful that anyone could get rich from writing instructional books on pool; especially in this country.

Most of them seem to be here to find action, sponsorship, stakehorses, or some other personal gain. They aren't here to help anybody but themselves (in a lot of cases).

I know John Schmidt only posts when necessary because people like to give him a hard time on here for some reason.

I assume they don't for the same reason you do not see the APA President, The Brunswick President, The Olhausen Table Prez. The Cloth companies presidents, the BCA's president or most bigger billiard corporations here in the US and abroad giving out tips on how to run a company like there's.




The word on the street seems to be that it's bad business to post here mostly because posters can say anything they want without verification, steal ideas and slam companies/individuals with lies, mistruths, start rumors and such without any ramifications from the mods. Many in the industry feel it is a bad concept for marketing purposes to be invloved with forums.

I feel advertising here should be a must but even that is subjective to some because of the bad rep of the forums.

Thats my InsideScoop Opinion of the day.

Marketing falls apart under scrutiny in almost every case...marketing is simply Bullsh*t for profit.. how many car commercials have you seen that say "don't do this" at the bottom of the screen.. while the car is smoking its tires around an impossible corner at 100 miles an hour.

once any company grows to large it simply has customers.. it doesn't NEED customers any more..

at that point an 80% approval keeps your customer base full.. the big problem is that the 20% that got screwed are going to complain "LOUDLY" because they got screwed..

and the only place they can do that is on forums like these..

I'm a forum rat just like the rest of you...

the internet's greatest triumph and greatest flaw is that it allows ANYONE to express their opinion and have it seen by people around the world...

if you don't want bad press... don't sell a crappy product...bottom line

What secret aiming system is there?? I just get down on the ball and if i'm not lined up with the ball to pocket it, i just move a tiny tiny bit over.

Everything i've learned is from watching and listening to pro matches. Watching pros play i would just try to imitate the way they would hit the ball/play shape. Also listening to the commentators, mostly the ones before 2003 like incardona,hall,diliberto, and others of that era.

I have a tape with rempe commentating that i learned so much from i couldn't believe it.

I agree Donny,I have been playing for about 4 years and I am just a B player but I learned alot from watching good players live or on tv and videos.I would watch them run balls and predict their positional routes and most time they took that route but when they didn't I would learn something new. :smile:

I think everyone here hit the nail on the head. I used to post in a forum that helped homeowners with their plumbing issues for free....I'm a master plumber. Most people were thankful for the help, but actually would get pissed if what you told them didn't magically fix their problem. Can you imagine how hard it can be to solve a plumbing issue with no pics online? Anyway, no matter where you go you need a thick skin!
