Nice site...the highlight for me was the picture below of...it's gotta be Keith...right
Caesar-2.JPG

hahaha...

That has to be Keith, right?!

I really enjoyed the website. Especially the streamline of his final match with Souquet for the European 9-ball championships...

The pictures were great as well!

LOL. Yep, that's Keith! :p

I went to the website, and it was very tastefully done. I could read every link until I got to the MEDIA one. I clicked it three different times, but it would NEVER come up. I am in dial-up, which may be the problem. :(

Alex Lely has quite a portfolio of accomplishments. Does he post on AzBilliards?

Video didn't work for me either and I'm on DSL.

Alex won the European Championship for 8-ball and 9-ball this year, and 3rd in the 14.1  Very Impressive!

Thank you all for your view on the website. Hopefully there will be more.

About the Media page it is indeed a heavy page and sometimes hard to get on if you are on dial up. Try on a quit time for you and be patient.

I don't understand the picture of Keith and I will ask him why it is on his site, maybe a mistake maybe there is a story behind it......and maybe he just liked the picture. (I will let you know)

Yes Alex won the European Championship 2005! 8-ball AND 9-ball and in the 14.1 and teams he became 3. He was off course the MVP of the Europeans.

Players that were also in this tournament were Ortmann, Souquet, Engert, Hohmann, Feijen, van den Berg, Immonen, Chamat and many others.

Alex will now play the World Pool Masters (that he already won in '99)
Then we have the Eurotour (230 players)
And most probally he will be invited for the World Pool League as 9 ball champ.

Nicely done website, i enjoyed the video!

I'm looking forward to watching Alex play in the WPM.

Nice website and the video of his championship win was great. The series of safeties (although they took a long time) was something to watch. It must have been the greatest feeling in the world for Alex when he saw the result of Souquet's last shot.

What would you have done?

I realize it all worked out for Alex, but I have a theoretical question for you guys....
For those of you that seen the video, I have a question for you. When Souquet kicked at the one the very first time leaving the qball and one ball about 1/16" apart and even closer to the rail................what would YOU have done if you was Alex?

For those of you that did not see it, here is the formula to the WEI table, so you can see the layout.......

START(
%AD0Y3%PE5Y3

)END

What would you have done?

I know a shot from here that will allow you to freeze the object ball to the rail and the qball to the object ball. (I might need a ruling, seeing how all of the rules are different.) But the shot is sweet.

The reason Keith is on his website has a story, as Alex is a great story telling person he put the story on his website at his weblog.

Have a look on www.alexlely.com

What a treat to see that final rack! The most impressive part was just understanding how confident Souquet is in his game, to shoot the one ball like he did the first inning. If he lands just on top of the one, he leaves a kick opportunity at the same pocket. It was incredible to see a ball lagged that far and still be perfectly struck to stick behind the ball, taking out the kick.

What's better is seeing it all while I am at work!

Thanks again for the link..

Can someone explain to me the rationale behind placing your hand above the ball to check if it is frozen to the rail or another ball as seen in this video? I have never understood this.

You can clearly see if a ball is frozen or not when you create a shadow over top of it. Take away how the light or angle the light wants to shine in the crevice you are trying to look at and it is easier to see.

Not well explained probably but I am sure you get it.

Whats your shot? Pin the ob to th rail with the cb?It is a foul, if so, and not 'sweet' at all...unless you are the other guy.

blackballed you'd need to put on about 300lbs to pull that shot off. you key part is to position your body to shield the balls from the other guy's view...then just rearrange them with your tip until they're froze.

You lay your stick on the table horizontally with the cue tip directly below the edge of the qball. Now all you have to do is grab the shaft about 6 inches from the ferrule and pick the front end of the shaft straight up. It nicks the qball and hopefully freezes the qball and object ball as well as the object ball to the rail.

It is a very powerful shot.

Some players still do this but I believe it has been determined that it is an illegal shot and would not be allowed in tournament play.

They had a big battle with that one! Since Alex Lely also play billiards he thoughed of the option on shooting a picket-double kiss-2 rails-safety.
What a shot....

Thank you for the great comments on the site and Alex will keep his website up to date as much as possible. I have seen many pictures wich have great story's and he will post them on his website.

Thursday he fly's to England together with Niels Feijen to compeet in the World Pool Masters.
