I cannot follow this post - why would you get money when your playing is shown somewhere?
I thought you get money for showing up and doing your job (playing or winning a tournament).

Free is good!

Who cares what Youtube makes off the poor sob's. Its their own fault always looking
for something for nothing. Its been goin on for over 50 years and will never change.
Look at all the money Accustats has made selling pool videos does anyone know
what share of it poolplayers got? No organization plus no big money supporters is
what you got now. What does anyone do for the sport really? Thats why its goin back
to the home furniture business with the help of all the pool leagues. Nobody wants to
pay for anything anymore. Get used to it:thumbup:

Wow. That's a pre-requisite to get banned from most places. LOL.. But whatever floats your boat buddy.

Exactly. But welcome to 2015.. Yes, the new century where billiard videos are making great advertising revenue, which could be a great vehicle to bring pool in better light financially.

No matter what videos are put on you tube or anywhere else. The players are not gonna get a penny of it, the job as the pool player is to make a game and win at the he or she makes. This is never gonna change and you has given the people a chance to watch videos and learn FOR FREE. By doing that it has brought more attention and more players into pool that may have not been involved without YouTube. I agree players should get compensated some way but there are too too too too many dope head grimy slimy dejenerate pool players out there that sponsors and big companies like you tube will never share the wealth.

do the players even own any rights to the matches? I wouldn't pay to watch them anyway, sames as I don't pay for the plumbing tips or car fixes I get off you tube.

Just have the players post their own matches and monetize their YouTube account. They'll get paid.

BOOM. You read my mind.

Players can buy a camera and a tripod, create a youtube account and post their own matches up. But darn then youtube will take most of the $1.50 made from the couple of thousand views most pool videos get.

I use AdBlock anyway so nobody on youtube is getting a penny off me.

Welcome to the internet, where people are free to make any old claims they want to without providing a single fact to back up their statements.

Can I just point out one thing. This is the live stream room, this thread should have been posted in the main forum under the who gives a s..t section. Free videos on you tube help pool a lot more than they hurt pool.

Thank you, you are right, sir. And yes, it's the players fault that they do not put any motivation (and money) into recording high quality matches and putting them on Youtube.
I guess they are too busy being old-minded players only gambling away their money instead of investing it in a new stable venture that will pay off in the long run.

do the players even own any rights to the matches? I wouldn't pay to watch them anyway, sames as I don't pay for the plumbing tips or car fixes I get off you tube.

In Germany (where sensible law usually is in place ;) ) - absolutely NO.
IIRC, you can only claim some rights when it's some kind of a artistic performance and NO, you cannot claim that a pool match is an artistic performance. That will not fly. Fortunately.

Cheers,
M

TaDa! Someone with a great solution. You would have to have the rights to the recording but yeah monetizing an account with all of your matches in a playlist would be the best way to get some change from youtube.

But no youtube is not stealing bread from players mouths...these videos were uploaded willingly and are therefore fair game. Youtube does not owe anyone money for these videos unless they were posted by an partner account or monetized account. If you want to get paid you need would exclusive rights to the recording of a match that you have played in...players are simply not that organized. I guess if a big name like Shane or Darren decided to post practice or action videos with their own recording equipment and post it on youtube then yeah I would imagine they would be compensated for the small amount of views it would receive and every month they would have a free tank of gas...woohoo

Not sure what you mean by "great advertising revenue". My website LiveVIDY.com's Youtube channel has 20,000 views and we have $10 in ad revenue. Half the time we get Content Id strikes for the jukebox playing in the pool hall. Somebody should start a Facebook "Please Share" campaign to solve that important issue! !
