What if the videos bring in new players to the game that wouldn't have otherwise and they spend millions on equipment and in playing time?

I am all about trying to promote pool and making it become more popular so please don't take this the wrong way. The people who are posting the videos on youtube can already profit from it. Its how some people are making a living from youtube. You have to create an account, let them know you want to monetize your channel / videos, sign up for Google Adsense and walk through all of that first.

Then you get paid by the click or buy the subscriber and I think even by the comment.

I think that having the videos available on youtube help promote the sport in general and allows a lot of us the chance to watch matches that we weren't able to see in person.

Just my 2 cents...

With all due respect, this is an excellent example of an attitude that will cause harm to pool. What YouTube does is provide a free platform for people to view pool matches, instructional videos etc., become more interested and proficient at the game and ultimately grow the sport.

Companies like CSI presumably post videos of their events to promote interest in the sport and future streaming sales. Increasing viewership will grow the sport and ultimately benefit the players. Further, appearing on stream and then on YouTube increases the profile of the players and their endorsement potential. But, by all means, encourage players to avoid the streams unless they get paid.

Another website that is providing videos is no different than YouTube. Search engines do 50% of the work.

We need our own infrastructure to grasp a piece of the advertising revenue. This isn't going to happen overnight.

Like Youtube/Google would really care if pool videos were off the site? It's not a flea speck on their radar. something special about pool vs other hobbys I'm missing?

listen you are missing the point . there are plenty of youtube billiard videos that can take care of what you are talking about. Hundreds of thousands of billiard videos. the poolplayer does not have time or the experience to categorize their own videos produced by someone else into their own youtube channel to start reaping the rewards of the pennies YouTube pays for monetization and clicks. What you speak of is exactly what we need, but away from YouTube. it needs to be on a network similar to YouTube But with a focus of Billiards Only.

You're just CRAZY!!!!!

If I want to learn how to play poker, I go to you-tube
If I want to learn how to install a new toilet I go to you-tube
If I want to learn how to beat a video game I go to you-tube

Pool players are not going to lose money on youtube videos, because pool players just don't get paid for being on tv.

Do you think wide world of sports paid? Do you think sportsnet paid pool players for televising matches?

Hell even the people putting in the work to video and post pool matches barely get paid.

I actively attend you-tube university. The more courses the better.

Pool included

It is not the attempt to remove any existing billiard videos on YouTube. That is a whole other project. YouTube can sustain itself with what they have already, and pool community can also sustain itself from the free content that currently exists. However, moving foward, our industry needs to take notice, that the revenues generated from advertising, the players are missing out on their talent. Do you pay for music? Sure.

Pool Players need an avenue to get a piece of the action. Please keep in mind , that we're talking about full length matches, not the display of enthusiastic billiard gurus posting their own snippets of themselves playing pool, or short videos explaining the game. We're are exclusively taking about Full Length Matches!

how does the player get paid and by whom? I kind of see where you are going but think or feel that you maybe more emotional than rational, maybe you can help clear things up.

The "Make it Happen" is on now and Pat will be selling DVD's
What happens if a streamer looks to put on a stream let's say AL or InsidePool and none of the player want to be on the stream table cause well none of these guys are paying them the $5000 show up fee or whatever, now viewer are left looking at a blank table or maybe two bangers going head to head in an hour long match that's a race to 3.
What if it's a paid stream? Does Big Truck or TAR have to sign a 5% contract with the player prior to selling the stream of does the ad say "Huge 9 ball even 15 top pros, buy the stream now cause you never know who's going to be on the stream table. No really, we have no idea who it will be either as we're still negotiating"

it isnt, you are correct wont happen overnight but i believe that there is a network that is set up for Just Pool players' well-being in mind. these players have been left out of the loop when it comes to being filmed without compensation. nor their permission for that matter.

no one is boycotting YouTube just telling the players to basically demand compensation , or have their videos on a site that there will be the better potential for compensation.

Totally unrelated to this post. You've missed the entire point.

You're just CRAZY!!!!!

You've totally missed the point again. If you had read the post, it states the "POTENTIAL", and not what they currently lose. Even though THEY ARE.

You're just CRAZY!!!!!

Again missed the point. You're taking this to a negative level, which is not the intention of this post. We're supposed to be building up the players of the sport and getting them compensation for their art/talent. I'm in total agreement and understanding that YouTube gives the pool industry essence and meaning, but the players are doing this for free, which is extremely unfair.

No usually the stream's intent is to expose the sport, and players in most circumstances are not compensated. I've been producing live broadcasts on the internet since 2010.

Where did you get your $500,000 figure?

If you are posting the videos and you are getting enough views, YouTube will pay you.........thus the girls that put on makeup and have 4 million views, making money.

One guy made 12 million last year - PewDiePie and he has 40 million followers to listen to him make rude comments as he plays a video game.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/maddieberg/2015/10/14/the-worlds-highest-paid-youtube-stars-2015/

So if pool was getting enough views, someone would be getting paid.
(let me know when you find 40 million subscribers that want to watch Robb Saez draw his ball)

You've hit a good point. So making an inference to this post, the games that PewDiePie is playing and generating this revenue, is any of it flowing back to the manufacture of the game? That is the whole point in the post about the "pool player' that is generating the content from their art/talent.

You've totally missed the point and have made analogies far beyond the scope of what is reality for pool and the semi-small nature of it. The little revenue that is available, which is simple math to come up with a half a million dollar figure from the amount of billiard videos on YouTube and the analytic of them.

Other than beating down this great approach, we need to be spending the time on how to make it work for pool.

but wouldnt it be better if the players got paid? i think you are taking my intentions wrong . i have the players in mind when i say this. the nfl footage is copywritten , i wonder why thAT is ? ugh ...missing the point.

here is the point .... only speaking of the full link video matches.... not the short personal videos

there is a site up it will be like youtube except it will be for
Pool Only.

for the full matches.
that is what im talking about
