No, Johnny. Each of the 9 events was rated as Category 1, 2, or 3, with more points available for a Category 1 event than for Category 2, and more for Category 2 than for Category 3.
The only Category 1 event is the US Open 9-Ball. All 5 of the bar-table events are Category 3. The other 3 events are Category 2.
First place gets 30, 20, and 15 points in the 3 different categories. So with a C1, a C2, and two C3 events remaining, someone could, conceivably, receive 80 more points than they have now (30 + 20 + 15 + 15). It ain't over!
That 's right. Though that Luke guy will agree and still stubborn that MC will continue to be relevant for long time as USA v Europe
If anything is to change that Luke guy should be fired
:grin-square:
Who knows maybe Canada might banned Alex and Morra from taking part- I mean why taint Canada's name by sending the duo to be sacrificial lambs . Canada may not want any part of it
If we don't send Dechaine we are going to lose. It really is that simple. if they changed the game to 10 ball USA would have a better chance at this thing
Over the past six months, Dechaine has reached the final four at both the US Open and the SBE 10-ball. He was 2nd at the Derby City 1-pocket, 5th at the Dragon 14.1 event, and he won the American rotation event at Derby City. He won the Ocean States Championship in November, too.
This past weekend at SBE, he beat Immonen and Hohmann back to back, that's two Europeans who've won the World 9-ball championships.
Any system that doesn't send Mike Dechaine to Las Vegas this year is a joke.
I've been seeing this from the inside for quite a long time and it's not as one-sided as you might think. USA have enough players able to beat anyone on a 9 footer, playing a race to 5 in 9-ball with alternate break.
What Johan Ruijsink brought in 2006 was a structure, with discipline and codes. This took the event to another level of professionalism.
That level has yet to be achieved by the USA team whose preparation lacks the experience of Europe's. It could change in just one edition of the cup, like it did back in 2006 when Europe realized how it needed to be done (yet, still didn't win that year).
As for Luke, who's been part of every pool event Matchroom has made since he was hired in 1996 I'm not sure he could be qualified as somebody that doesn't know things in our sport. Organizing 80+ world class events on three continents with constant Live TV is quite a resume.
This debate or the one that says Europe is more than one country is getting really old. It's a tradition, like the Ryder Cup, and it will stay that way. Playing Taiwan vs. Canada might be fun but it's another event. Go watch it on Youtube.
The reality is you'll all be praising Team USA and its coach when they make it happen, and all of this will be forgotten. All of you claiming there are not enough "good players" in the USA to make a 5-man team should really take a step back and look at the current state of pool in the USA. There might be no tour, but the players are here, and way more than five.
Strange title of the article, given that Scott Frost is tied for second. Scott would be an interesting Mosconi Cup addition. I don't know him, but he always seems to have a ... large personality. I watched some of the Bonus Ball matches last year, and my young daughter would watch a little bit, and she said "why is that big guy being so bossy and mean to that little guy all the time?" lol it was Scott telling Tommy Kennedy what to do.
Interesting that Dechaine isn't up there, but there's still time.
Remember also that only the top three places on this list matter. The other two are captain's picks. But I'd like to see Wilson stick to at least the top 10.
I don't see how you can blame the points system if Dechaine himself doesn't play in enough points-earning events.
They NEVER said that the top three would be chosen. What they said was that three players would be chosen from the top 32 and two would be captain's choice picks.

What it was like two or three of the points events so far were announced as points events less than a week out, making it impossible for some players to ensure they could be there...

I assume that it is the Chimp talking on this one. The one in the Avatar.
Luke has more insight on the world of pool than any six people on this forum. Over the years he has made no significant decisions that the have turned out to be wrong.
You don't work for Barry Hearn for 20 years unless you can cut the mustard.
Luke will probably chuckle at the sheer inanity of Spartan/Simba's post

I gotta give Scott some credit....sounds like he is really stepping up his game and getting his swagger back. I would be interested in seeing how he does playing on the Mosconi cup...Hard to knock him until he gets a chance to prove himself playing in it at least 1 year.
