    Carbon Shaft w/ Hard tip

I prefer harder tips. If your cue delivery is very linear they work well. The stiffer hit of a carbon shaft may mean you need to go lighter on your cue so you're not over-juicing the ball and can still play those softer-but-high-spin touch shots.

    grip

Not an instructor, but going between different cue sports, I want to suggest you keep in mind that your stance, stroke mechanics, and butt diameter/weight/balance, will affect how you want to grip. I have to grip a 19.5oz back-heavy cue a lot different than I grip my preferred forward-balanced...

    Snooker-style stance......................

It may seem awkward and uncomfortable standing with your hips squared up at first if you're coming from a pool background. But once it's in your muscle memory, it's actually very comfortable and stable. The more relaxed side-on pool stance, I suspect, is not "because the American sport...

    Pros: Please answer this:

Many of these guys developed their strokes before LD was a thing, and for some of the older guys, some of them before got set in their usual way before the much faster cloths were in common use. And some of it is because they naturally feel out shots using pivot english, and bridge however...

My first 147 while practicing Snooker!(with poolcue)

Awesome job. 147 with a pool cue.. heh, that will make some people do a double take. On slower snooker tables I do set aside my snooker cue sometimes and go with my pool cue. (No 147 ... yet... hell I'm not sure if I've even made a century with my pool cue) But if the table isn't going to roll...

    Predator Revo 12.4mm

Well this is half a dream realized, I definitely was praying they'd offer a thinner shaft. I just wanted a little bit thinner than this. Does anybody know if they are going to offer a smaller diameter in the future? I would love it if they could go down to 12mm or 11.75...

Backing up the cue ball, reverse

Matt nailed it when he explained that trying too hard can start to ruin your draw. You have to trust your tip to do what it's going to do and that the ball will back up. Relax. I'd characterize it more as a spin/speed ratio problem, which comes up against the maximum level of precision you...

Why do some European players move to the US?

Try paying European tax rates and owning a home big enough for a pool table with just your earnings playing pool and sponsorships. The few that take up in major pool cities (NYC) do not exactly have fancy apartments and supplement their earnings other ways. The others live in BFE.. Thorsten...

    Playing Good Players

When you say "better players", how much better do you mean? If you're truly a C player, you can certainly get beat down and your money taken by a B+, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're learning anything worthwhile. Plenty of people can get to a high ranking but may actually have bad...

Playing differences in length of pro taper

Sorry for the delayed answer. What I mean is that you can control your spin vs. speed ratio by varying the 'effective mass' of your cue. What does that mean?? Some people love a super-soft tip because they think it gives more spin. Others will slap a Medium-Hard or Hard tip on their cue and...

    Grip vs. Elbow

Fine I'll bite. I should say that what I meant to make clear is my main point in advocating a firmer 'grip' is to keep a firmer wrist, exerting only enough pressure on the cue to keep control of it, effectively making your wrist/hand part of the pendulum. I think everything Fran has said is...

Playing differences in length of pro taper

Factors: Ring count of the wood. Is it maple or is it ash? TIP DIAMETER. So important. I generally play an 11.5mm with a 14" pro taper. So whippy few people can stand it. If you can stroke it mostly straight ever time, the action is ridiculous. If you can stroke it DEAD straight with...

    Grip vs. Elbow

Revisiting this after I spent the holidays on my own table focusing on pool only, no snooker... I have this to say on the subject: What I've noticed is that if you get flat and low with your feet a full cue length from from the CB, a loose shuffle grip will not give you the straightest cuing...

    Drag Shots

Well part of the reason it helps to stay lower even when you need follow is because when you hit in the upper half of the CB and your cue is not as level as possible, even a millimeter of accidental side will make your CB want to curve slightly. If you have the gift to cue dead level and...
