Official Score thread for the 2009 Breakup - Drivermaker Memorial Holiday Tournament

Ok since our two smack talking tournament directors haven't plucked up the motivation to start this years tournament, I'm taking the bull by the horns and starting the official score thread for this year.

I'll of course leave the official call out to them because while they're motivational challenged, they do have a certian way with words that makes you scratch your head and say....

"hey did those jerks just insult my abilities?"

Good luck everyone, I'll of course update you all with the juicyest gossip about who's cheating, who's dumping and bribing the tournament directors this year.

Yours for a challenging tournament SGM

Equipment: hmm let me see, I'm going to be doing this around the city so here's a list of possible equipment:
- Duffrin tables with slow championship cloth either 8 or 9 foot(oh please let me do this someplace else)
- Valley 7 foot table with slower championship cloth but nice rails and pockets.
- 9 or 8 foot paladins with Simonis 860 (most likely the 9 foot tables)

Session #5 = 16,20,14,12,20,3,10,20,12,16 = 143

AVG. = 158.6

I totally plan to cheat, lie and otherwise do my best to place in the top 100 this year. I think I have a good chance.

I'm back to prove I CAN improve!

Let's see if I can outrun SoundWves, and let someone else finish last!

8' Olhausen, 4 1/8" tough spittin' corners, Simonis

Session #1 ; 9, 5, 20, 5, 9, 2, 3, 19, 3, 9= 84
Session #2 ; 1, 10, 10, 2, 3, 12, 14, 9, -1, 12= 72
Session #3 ; 12, 6, 12, 2, 13, 8, 20, 11, 19, 20 = 123
Session #4 ; 8 12 12 4 2 9 8 9 8 2 = 74
Session #5 ; 4 4 14 12 9 20 4 0 14 6 = 87
TOTAL = 440
AVG. = 88

Well, at least some life and some hope in that third rack, then back to distraction. But hope, I say!
A gain of some measure, and I would have liked to put another set together.

That rack was with a different cue and shaft (OB), but the last two racks were also. So, lack of focus on each shot is my dearth once again.

The first three sessions were on the 9' Gold Crowns at Hard Times, league pockets just a tick over 4.5" in the corners (not the tournament tables), cloth is Simonis 860. The last two session were on Olhausen 9' Champion Pro also with Simonis, not sure if it's 860 though, and league pockets (two balls with a little wiggle room).

Session #1: 10,14,6,20,20,7,12,5,4,10 = 108
Session #2: 18,20,8,18,3,7,9,6,16,20 = 125
Session #3: 8,12,6,10,16,6,12,4,14,14 = 102
Session #4: 16,16,20,16,16,8,14,9,14,20 = 149
Session #5: 18,14,12,20,12,18,20,20,12,10 = 156

Total = 640

I actually thought my last two sessions would not go as well because the Olhausen corner pockets, even though they are my regular tables, produce frequent rattlers and you can't really hit shots along the rail hard with any confidence, but these turned out to be my two best sessions. I think I just got the hang of the test, like really focusing on every shot, understanding the importance of getting in to the rotation phase, and planning ahead for the last 5 two pointers. So, like Neil, I feel I left a few out there with those single digit racks and may try to see if I can get in another 50 racks before the clock expires.

12/24/08 Session 1: 14 12 10 20 10 07 06 20 10 04 = 113
12/24/08 Session 2: 06 16 10 03 14 20 20 18 20 05 = 132
01/17/09 Session 3: 06 08 01 01 00 01 03 01 00 03 = 24
01/25/09 Session 4: 01 04 10 04 03 01 08 03 20 06 = 60
01/30/09 Session 5: 06 09 04 01 01 09 -1 19 20 14 = 82

9' Gold Crown 3, Worn but fast 860, 5" pockets

Comments after session 1 and 2: This is my first time doing this. I wanted to do it the last 3 years, but just never did. Making the transition to the last 5 balls is difficult thinking for me. I spent several minutes at times during this phase. Concentration is crucial on the last few balls. I missed three 20's with HANGER 1, 2, and 3 ball outs.

Comments after session 3: Well, I hurt my back a month ago. In fact immediately after session 2, I couldn't move barely. Something with my sciatic nerve. It hurt anytime I bend. I took a break for a month, and tried again tonight for session 3. My back felt better, but still some pain. I couldn't do anything right. It was just horrible. I feel like I'll never play again:( :( :( :(

Comments after session 4: My back is still bad, but it is definitely better than last time. I layed down on the floor to rest it between every other rack. People were looking at me funny but this tournament is sacred and must be finished:) I did manage to get a 20 and that really made me feel good. I'm going to rest one more week and then try the last session.

Comments after session 5: My back is a bit stronger. I definitely did better this time. I think the biggest thing is I'm so out of stroke due to not playing. Also, I'm being less critical of my stance due to the extra burden it puts on my back. I enjoyed the tournament, and look forward to next year.

Is this year the 2008 or the 2009 year? It seems the 2008 year was already done last year.

I noticed that too. Last year it was posted as the 2008 BUD Bowl as well. I almost posted scores on the wrong thread at first. You have the right one though, so have fun and good luck.:)

I wasn't here at the time but looking back at that thread it appears there was no ending date established so it was probably assumed to end around the Superbowl, which was in 2008.

My understanding is this one ends at midnight 12/31/08.

Dude I believe you have until the end of DCC.

Good luck

Hmmmm, a new urban legend born before our eyes .... I always thought the tourney ran from US Thanksgiving to New Years Day (Jan 1, not the Chinese NY, or the Ukranian NY, although those may suit SGM better).

All in all, we can close this 'open' whenever we flippin' well feel like it :p

Dave

For some reason I was under the impression this ends at midnight tonight. I wish one of the TD's would step in and let us know officially. I may have time to try to improve on my score. :wink:

I hurt my back my sciatic nerve. I haven't been able to bend for a week! I'm going to finish though even if I miss the deadline.
