2008 BUD BOWL (BUDMMHT) - Official call-out from the co-director

As the co-director of this years Breakup-Drivermaker Memorial Holiday Tournament (and woof-fest), it is my pleasure to officially open the tournament today. As many of you know we have a yearly "virtual" tournament where members, in the privacy of their own pool halls, can participate in 50 racks of the Hopkins "Q Skill Challenge", then compare their scores against the rest of the AZB members. I will have a separate thread just for posting scores (remember to follow the format of the first post, describe your equipment, and then just update your score as the tournament proceeds....one post per member); and a separate thread for the rules. Start now; tournament ends just before or after DCC.

This year I have a co-director to share the enormous burden (and of course the corresponding enormous prestige) that has become the BUDMMHT (now to be known as the BUD BOWL). I would like you all to accord the new co-director DaveK with all of the respect he truly deserves (I couldn't convince anyone else to do it).

I was going to go into a long screed (as I did the last 2 years) questioning the integrity, fortitude, and gender designations of all the forum members who were TOO SCARED to participate; but I think breakup did a much better job, so I will leave it to the new co-director.

Remember there will be a Q Skill Challenge event at the AZB Members Room at DCC 2007 with REAL prizes; so participation here will serve as much-needed warm-up for those of us serious enough to want to play real pool.

Here are the prizes for the winner of the DMMHT itself:

First prize = $50,000 cash, 2006 Corvette convertible, and all-expense paid trip to Bermuda.

(Would you believe $10,000, a Volkswagen beetle, and bus fare to Atlanta??)

(Would you believe a free postage stamp, a Hot wheels Corvette, and directions to the bus station??)

That is all, now good luck to the participants, who, by virtue of their participation ensure their inclusion in the pantheon of pool fanatics with courage, fortitude, and love for the game. To all the gutless wonders who are not participating - GET YOUR ASS OFF THIS SUB-FORUM; come back after your spine transplant.

P.S. - Remember that participation in this tournament is NOT optional. All AZB members are absolutely REQUIRED to participate (unless of course they want to be lumped into the official "gutless wonder" category). Pro's of course are an exception - we know they can play, they don't have to prove it - we DO welcome their participation.

We ABSOLUTELY DO NOT want to hear about wife, job, kids, incarceration, exile, amputation, major neurosurgical procedure, car accident, or your dog pissing on your table. When you attempt these kinds of excuses, all we hear is, "Blah, blah, blah, I'm a loser." Realize we WILL ALL ASSUME THE WORST about anyone failing to participate. Just a fact Jack.

Yup, that time again, only a few short weeks after our northern beer-soaked version of Thanksgiving and it's time for the BUD BOWL. Please participate, willie really needs to get that hot-wheels car out of his pocket.

As far as excuses go, I'll re-post some of willies words from 2005 when he posted :

"Significant kudo's to Secaucus Fats who has decided not to let that little problem with the major internal hemorrhaging get in the way of his pool."

And one last thing .... the real motivation to enter and play should simply be to get an honest appraisal of your offensive pool game ... be honest with yourself and you'll be a winner in this game.

This was one of breakups worries, that Cranial Rectosis would decrease the number of participants ... he was kind enough to post an X-ray or two of the fundamental problem ... here is one .... you can find the others at http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=36411

James and owl1.JPGwoof woof woof woof I've got you all beat this year. I can say this with a straight face because my participation this year has been blessed by Col. Clink the mostly blind deaf owl that frequents my place of work as shown below.

Though generally speaking I'm a gutless wonder ;)... I'm gonna participate (if only to prove to myself once and for all that I made the right choice sticking to my day job )

By when do we need to get our numbers in.. and do we need to shoot the 5 sessions consecutively in one sitting?

You are past that generality now ... assuming you actually fill in scores  :D

The "Holiday" in the tournament title should likely be "Holidays" , but who wants to argue symantics ... the thing starts on the later Thanksgiving holiday (us Canuks could start earlier I suppose, but we are a polite lot and don't mind waiting for our slow friends from the south ;) ) and ends on New Years Day, a few holidays later. So that means you have about 39 days, 8 hours, 14 minutes and 37 seconds to post all scores. Having said that, I recall that the closing was extended last year for various people who came up with weak excuses, so maybe you could pull one of their tricks if you fall behind .... make friends with Willie and he might give you till noon on the second of January 2008.

Dave, just trying to help

PS you have to enter a score post (a placeholder really, just edit it as you play sets over the coming weeks) in the official score thread or you'll be back to your gutless wonder status in no time flat !
