Thanks! I'll be sure to have updates when we're there and I've been posing some pics in different threads of our league and tournament outings as well.

His goal is to make the Mosconi Cup team to avenge the US for their loss this year, we watched it live.

Lol AWESOME. I hope he does!

Just a few hours after I posted this, and several people already send me something to cover the cost, thanks!

I had this video posted a few other times but for those that have not seen it that posted here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFBzXAXuuy8

This is on a 7' Diamond in the back room of The Billiards Cafe in Ayer, MA where we play in our leagues. He is on the Jr league as well as the invitation only Masters 10 Ball league.

And I said this before, I missed that 5 ball on purpose so he can shoot, really and truly. We had a fun race to 3. You can see him line up on the 8 right, then shift his aim for some reason while in the stance that caused him to miss the shot. He learned to get up and re-aim if he feels odd about something since then.

"The New England USA Pool League Master 9-ball division is a “by invitation only” division. The goal is to invite only serious players who have demonstrated a desire to improve and perfect their game as well as a willingness to share their knowledge and skill. More often than not the serious player will be identified by their skill level and it is expected that this division will be made up primarily of highly ranked players. Amateur league players, as well as those who are not welcome in other leagues because professional status, will be considered for admission to this league. However, skill level will not be the only criteria. We will be considering a player’s level of commitment to the sport and the degree of sportsmanship exhibited by the player in competitive settings."

I would of bobbled the 5 just to make it look better.
With a name like hang-the-9 you should be good at it>>
The kid is going to be a good player.
Good luck to your son in the Nationals.

Thanks to all that sent me something for the trip, we have $100 so far from your donations. I have not told him about this yet, I am still a bit in shock myself over the support from you guys!

I think I will bring the cue the Jr League fundraiser we are having to help all the kids going from our area to be raffled off or bid on. Our league operator and the room owner puts on some great parties, last few years they did his they raised enough to pay for plane tickets for everyone.

If anyone is in the MA area, the fundraiser is scheduled for June 5th at The Billiards Cafe in Ayer. You can see pics of our room here http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=314126 Post #9 from me has some nice pics of the other Jr players that go there. Post 11, that girl is too cute, her name is Iris, she was 8 when she went to the Nationals and brought her teddy bear, their team picture has her holding it. In the fund raiser tournament she was paired up with a big biker looking guy, it was funny when they were side by side.

My friend, I don;t think Steve will mind if you sell this to send Alex to Nationals.
I am 99,9% sure of this. he is a nice guy and he always trying to help, as he already did with Alex.
Tho, if you want to have a clear conscience give him a call and tell the story.
Just my 2 cents...

Alex deserves to be there. Is a talented young gun fighting with the big guys already. I wish you guys the best.

Thanks Chris, I know you have experience with Alex's game first hand hehe, he's not easy to beat even up, much less with a spot eh? I'm just happy to be in the aura he creates when he shows up to play, everyone asks me about him, you should have heard them at the tournament Sunday, you'd think it was Eferen playing there, I kept hearing his name or "who is that kid there?" hehe.

Slow down

I'd worry less about Vegas or the cue, and just focus on getting him to slow down...
:-)
I love to see new blood coming into the game. Great to see.
If he can't go this year, he will have learned one of the most important lessons to be learned in pool...and that is:
Your responsibilities, job, finances and relationships come first. One needs to learn to have discipline, and enjoy pool in moderation. That's the secret. And he could learn all that by not going :-)
Hope he can go though.

He was actually taking not being able to go if we could not save up the money for the trip very well, but that fact makes me want to have him go even more :sorry::) And the fact that he had about $100 saved for the last 6 months and put away his $70 tournament winnings without touching it to help pay for the trip shows that he is very serious about advancing and competing at pool. How many 13 yr old kids could hold on to all that money and not spend it? I know I would have spend at least half of it at that age hehe.

I just got a $35 donation from someone just a few minutes ago, that's about $135 from AZ people for him! I wish I could record his reaction when I tell him about the support he is getting.

Someone from AUSTRALIA sent me something for my son's Nationals trip. AUSTRALIA... for a kid in the US...

It's your son...you get a pass.

Break your house for him if it comes to that. Nothing is more important

Hi Gian, Alex is playing in the MA Jr State tournament May 19th in Ayer, if you can make it, I'm sure he'd love to see you. There is also a fund raiser for the Jr program for the Nationals there on Wed June 5th, would be nice to have you there. He enjoyed visiting and seeing your collection.

EDIT.. since some have offered to donate for his trip, I will add my paypal to here, this pretty much makes the selling of the cue a moot point, so it will be given to a a jr player or given to be raffled for the BEF or local Jr program. PayPal for Alex's National trip: lgurevich@charter.net feel free to read the rest of the post though, and thanks to all that replied! The trip is at the end of July, if for some odd reason we can't go, everyone gets their money back of course. I think after the money I got for my cue, along with fund raisers and son's saving for this trip, we'll need another $300. If anyone has a patch they want to send (cue maker, whatever as a sponsor), please send me a note and I'll stick it on his case or shirt. We can't wear a shirt there as the players from our area go as a uniform group in USAPL shirts, but I'm sure we can add some patches.

A while back, Steve Klapp sent my son a shorter cue to use, free of charge, I just send him some money for shipping. My son used it for a few years till hit got old enough to use a full size cue, and I have had the Klapp cue sitting in a case for a while now.

My son will almost certainly be going to the Jr Nationals in Vegas, he got invited last year and will either go though winning a qualifier or by getting an invitation through the league he is in. My 13 yr old boy also just placed 7th in a 43 entry tournament this Sunday, handicapped but he played well and got in the cash with players double, triple, quadruple his age. He loves the game.

This is him during the tournament with the room owne, 3C champ Mazin Shooni, who he beat by the way 3-1 hehe

Due to me losing my job in December and just having a contract job now that is not permanent, I do not have a lot of spare money to send him there, the plane ticket will be probably paid for from fund raisers the league puts on, but we'll need money for hotel, food, etc...

I already sold my Joss Limited that I have had since early 90s to pay for this, and am thinking about selling the Klapp Jr cue as well. But.. I got it for free. So I am facing a bit of a dilema here, I originally was going to keep the cue for my daughter, but she is not really into pool, next up was giving the cue away to another Jr player that was worthy, but now with the money issue, I am thinking of putting it up for sale to raise funds for the Nationals trip. It may or may not make a difference, I doubt the cue is worth more than a $100 if that, although it's a nice custom Klapp ebony and zebrawood cue. I need some help from your moral players about what to do here, sell a "gifted" cue to fund a trip for my son or not.
I say go ahead and sell it so the kid has some extra walking around money at nationals. Steve Klapp

Steve, thanks, you sent Alex this cue when he was 8, 5 years ago. It was one of the things that got him interested in playing more.

I am going to donate the cue to raise money for the Jr Nationals for our local league, thinking someone will want to get in a raffle for this or outright buy it. The members here have send us about $150 so far for his trip, I'd feel better if the pool stick was able to help others.

Very cool of you to ask. Steve stopped in to tell you in a few short words but I know Steve and he will be honored to see your son be able to make it to the nationals even if it means that the cue he gifted him had to be sold for him to have that walking around money.
I believe You did the right thing, it makes for no sour grapes in the future when the cue resurfaces for sale and a buyer contacts Steve to confirm the cue to be authentic and Steve knows that he sponsored the cue and it was sold for a good cause.
Zebra wood and ebony! I'm thinking the cue is worth more than $100.00. Steve does some neat ring work, he dabbed a lot of ideas so the cue could have some unique rings.
Post pictures please.
Thank you
