2015 AZB Ghost Challenge - Official Thread

Keep at it. Next one should come in 50 attempts or less then 25 then 10 and soon you will be beating the ghost more than 50% of the time.

I'm so happy I beat him once. I've been riding this happiness wave for the past few days. It's like pool is fun again:)

Here is my video. Thanks all for the words of encouragement:) I think I can officially say I'm no longer a C player, and now in the B range:)

Video is edited to 12 min for easy viewing:

Gratz!

Definitely Strong B play there.

I try throw some observational analysis.
At 4:50 you had played 2 rail position but you really should shoot a lot draw and one rail position. That your choice have high risk of scratch or if you beat scratch you could get snookered(what did happen also).

Later you missed 2 easy balls because some kind of mental fart. No biggie. everyone do those mistakes.... But what you do after those is crucial. You did got thrown out from your comfort zone. You started think what is score etc..

Tips: Get used to play out from your comfort zone. No one can do it naturally. It need to be learned.
. Accept the fact that score is just reflection from your performance. Mark it - And re-focus just your game.

Anyway. Great shooting there. You made great last rack!

OP updated, thanks for the submissions everyone!

With five months left, I think it's a good time to set some goals to achieve before the end of the year. I'll start:

By the end of the 2015, I will:
- Beat the 10 ball ghost by at least a 70% score (7-3)
- Beat the American Rotation ghost
- Average over 20 points per run in a match against the straight pool ghost (still need lots of work on 14.1 patterns and break shots)

I beat him once after maybe 100 or more attempts. An A would beat him more than half the time:)

True, but make sure to keep a record of your total games won/lost. If you beat the ghost 7-0-7-0 but then lose your next 3 sets 7-6, 7-5, 7-5, you still "beat" the ghost, even though you lost more sets.

See how do on this drill, I find it to be pretty accurate in rating a player's offensive speed:

Rack up some 10 ball. Break from anywhere. After the break, take ball in hand and run out, in rotation (1, 2, 3, etc...) All balls made on the break count. Any balls made on a scratch are spotted. [Added by dr_dave: A scratch incurs a 2-point penalty.] Once you miss, the rack is over. You should shoot 10 racks and count the total balls made for each rack. After 10 racks, take your total and compare it to this chart:

[added by dr_dave: <30 D]
30-35 D+
36-40 C
41-45 C+
46-50 B
51-55 B+
56-60 A
61-65 A+
66-70 A++
71-up Pro

Lost 7-6 yesterday, but it was the ugliest set I've ever played.

Made two 9's on the break in a row, but they were spotted. I also made 4 early 9's that I counted. Two of them were actually pretty tough combinations, and played because of clusters.

One situation did come up at 6-6, and I wasn't sure if a rule had been put in place already. I went to break the balls, and missed the one ball entirely, but clipped the wing ball. I re-racked and broke again. It didn't make a difference as I failed to get out anyways.

Wow, there might be some gaps in the rack if you're getting that many clusters and 9 balls on the snap...

About the missed break, we didn't decide on a rule for that, but I think what you did is acceptable as scratches on the break don't count and it rarely happens anyway. As long as the ghost doesn't complain, I think you're good ;)

Tried the straight pool ghost today. I suck, so I did it with the ghost getting remaining balls plus 10.

Had a 26 and a 23, but missed one break shot, and ended up losing 100-63.

Video uploading.

It will get easier just keep at it. Missing the break shot hurts when the ghost gets 15 balls plus 10/20 points.

I haven't played 14.1 in about 6-7 months but plan to play the ghost tomorrow night.

Didn't go so well with the 14.1 last night. Ever since I stopped playing music in the background and started listening to commentators on youtube my game has been at a loss of focus. Gonna go back to music and if youtube deletes the audio, so be it.

Good stuff guys, I'll start a straight pool section a little later when I have some free time.

I'll try to get a video uploaded as well if I can find an open table to play on this week.
Good luck everyone!

Okay, I figure out why my game was in the gutter for the last two months. It wasn't listening to the commentators on YouTube, it was my shaft. I have the new Vantage shaft from Predator and I ended up taking it down to a smaller diameter, well I took it down too much and the laminates split apart on me. At first I thought the tink in my stroke was my tip coming loose so I replaced the tip and that was when I noticed the laminates were separated. Luckily I have and OB2 shaft and I started playing with it last night and it control was back.

Today I played the ghost in 14.1 and ended up beating the ghost 108-0 on my 10 foot Brunswick. Please add this to the competition page, here is the link. Thanks.

Alright, the Straight Pool rankings are up. I separated it into three levels, so we all have a chance to beat the ghost.

Side Pocket, amazing as always... I put your run in the advanced section, although it doesn't matter because the ghost didn't even get a point

Hope to see more videos from you guys!

Holy crap! That took you all of about 5 min, lol.

Seriously though, great shooting!

By the way. If I'm not mistaken, Stuart Pettman's 117 still stands as the "world record" run on a 10 ft on video. A few more balls and you would've had it!

Thanks. I couldn't remember if it was 115 or 117. My goal will be to break that record before the new year.
