Im looking for some one who wants to serious practice/play 1-2 times a week. I just moved to long beach ca, from oregon so I know almost nobody. I play at hardtimes in bellflower and yanky doodles in long beach. I play some what strong, usually can sting together a few racks. Just want to raise the bar on my game so if anyone wants some one to practice with let me know.

Thanks, Mack

If you play at Hard Times, you shouldn't have a problem at all finding someone to play... Many people there are on this board, name the top player(s)..

Ya, but every one wants to gamble, I dont mind gambling sometimes. But often I just want to practice.

I'd be interested in some serious practice in a non-gambling situation. I'm in the south Orange County area. I can make it up to Long Beach or Bellflower but somewhere further south like Danny K's in Orange would be easier for me.

If you are interested send me a PM with your contact info and we'll see it if we can figure something out.

Hollywood Billiards is up in LA, anything from an 75 to 120 minute drive from where I live, depending on the time of day and number of freeway accidents.

I'd like to go up there though, looks like a nice place and Max Eberle is the house pro there. When visitors are in town it is always a good excuse to try new things! Send me a PM when you have your dates and times firmed up and we can set something up. It is a shame you won't be here the first week of April, that's when they have the WPBA tour stop at the Viejas in San Diego which is always a great time.

House of Billiards on Wlishire Blvd in Santa Monica always had a lot of action in there. There's also a Yankee Doodles in Santa Monica. The Billiard Inn on Venice Blvd is also a good place. Best bet is House of Billiards - nobody will leave you alone in there - just walk in with a cue in a case.
Hi Debra

I lived in Riverside from 1988 -1993 and used to go to Yankee Doodles and HardTimes in Bellflower. I haven't been to CA since I moved back east. Can you or do you know of someone who can take pictures of the inside of some of the Southern CA pool rooms so I can see how much they have changed and/or to bring back some good memories. Thanks

Kevin

I'm planning a trip to visit some friends in San Diego sometime in the spring. I'm glad I read this as now I have a date to plan the trip around...lol!

The San Diego tour stop dates are listed as March 30 - April 3, 2005 on the WBPA website. Assuming they have the same setup as in previous years there will be a pro-am charity event on Wednesday 30th and the actual play will start on Thursday 31st going through to the finals on Sunday.

I went to the pro-am event last year and it was lots of fun. Let me know if you'll be around for it.

Lol.. last time I was in House of Billiards and asked the guys who were gambling if they would like to play later, all I got was a bunch of bullshit. One jerk stood out in particular. So Rafael and I went to a mexican bar for action.. YIKES! lol

I went to Yankee Doodles about a year ago, not much has changed, including the cloth on the tables  . They got rid of the ping pong tables and have a bigger foosball area. Darts are still up top, bar is the same.

Only thing that changed at Hardtimes is the excitement. Not like the early nineties, I'm still in awe of all the talent that congregated there! Nothing like it. They have a website, www.hardtimesbellflower.com.

Hope that helps,

Mark

I put in a request for vacation today and emailed the friend I will be staying with while I'm there so as long as everything gets approved I'll definitely be there. I called the casino and they don't start selling tickets to the event until March 1st. They also said that there's no VIP seating?! Do you know if they just didn't know what they were talking about or if that is indeed the case? Thanks!

The room at the Viejas where they hold the tournament is farily small. They have a VIP section along one edge of the arena with real chairs during the televised rounds, then the usual hard metal bleachers on the other two sides. (The fourth side is taken up by the TV cameras.)

In the previous years seats in the VIP section were not for sale, they were all reserved for sponsors and other luminaries. You're going to have to start seriously kissing up to the ladies in the "Ask The Pros" forums if you want a seat there! Personally though I prefer the bleachers as I watching a Pool match from eye level with the table is less than ideal. Just bring your own cushions :)
