I was just curious what people thought of Dragon Promotions and their events? Any comments? Suggestions?

Dragon Promotions and Charlie Williams

Charlie Williams has a great vision on where the company DP and UPA org. can help the billiard industry excel far beyond what we have seen so far. His work ethic is practically flawless. He works hard everyday on new events and global participation of the cuesport industry. Dragon Promotions is a great organization for advertising major billiard events, other billiard related companies, pool rooms and casinos, and the top notch poolplayers in the world. I don't think I have seen more billiards on T.V. than I have these past few years because of it. He also has a terrific support group. I don't think he would have step down (or aside) if he didn't think they could do an equal or better job than himself.

That wasn't a paid advertisement by Arm...trust me...he is not sponsored by Dragon Promotions...if he was, he would be in Hog Heaven and not just a banger like me. That is just his honest assessment of Dragon Promotions as he sees it. I find nothing wrong with the giving of his opinion.

What Charlie is doing and has done is tremendous. He has been able to accomplish quite a lot with so little reasources. I am sure if he had KT's cash he could do much more. Also I tip my hat to the many such as Michael Zuglin in his success with the Joss tour. It is all these groups that help to continue to move pool forward.

I don't know much about Dragon Promotions, and I'm not a Pro so cannot really comment on the pros or cons of the UPA itself. However I can say I was extremely impressed with Charlie Williams personal conduct on 2 occasions.

Firstly during the 2003 UPA final tour stop at the Bycicle Club in LA, when Charlie Williams was still head of Dragon Promotions, I was there for the afternoon session. As the session was getting started he made a compex set of announcements about the tournament and related events. Then, after dealing with that, he stepped into the arena and went straight into a match against Ralph Souquet and won. Simply dealing with the stress of running a large Pro tournament is difficult enough, but to be able to do that and play world-class Pool shows real talent IMHO.

The second thing, that has nothing to do with Dragon Promotions, was how he dealt with Earl Strickland's blatant foul during the "Skins" tournament, which everyone else saw except the referee, including the TV audience at home. I'm sure if the situation had been reversed that Earl would NOT have simply sat back down and acccepted that the foul was not going to be called as Charlie did.

Coming from someone who knows Charlie; I can say that you would have a very hard time finding someone who cares more about the sport while maintaining an extremely high work ethic aimed at its' future. Cindy and Charlie have done a tremendous job promoting the sport and its players and I am sure have big plans for the future.

I heard (read) that he strong arms other tours in an attempt to monopolize. That sounds more like caring about "business", to me...

Thats is, if its true, of course. He seems like a nice fellow...

I think Charlies intent is more about the overall organization of pool throughout the world rather than forming a monopoly... just my thoughts...
