Ok.....we can all see that this is a beautiful cue. So lets just put that to one side for now. Lets talk about this shaft............
The cue came with a Low Deflection (LD) shaft. I have used Predator shafts for about the 10 year mark now and I can't seem to get out of using them. They perform great when you are under pressure. I have never really used other manufacturers shafts, choosing to stick 314s or 314-2s on my cue....its what I am used to and the formula works for me.
So today, I try this Ca$h cue out with the new LD shaft. The cue has a block ivory joint with a 3/8-11 SW style pin. What gives?????? I seriously cannot believe how straight and true this shaft shoots. I am completely blown away by this shafts performance. If anything, this is the lowest deflection shaft I have ever used. How can that be? There is no ferrule on it. Does the ferrule mean that much?? I don't know. I load up the cue ball with inside english, outside english...whatever......cue ball goes in a straight line...and I mean straight. So straight in fact...its a bit freaky. I suppose I am a sceptic at heart but the proof is in the pudding and if low deflection shafts are your thing, I truly believe there is no better product on the market. How the shaft will survive with the constant pounding between tip and wood will just have to be seen over the time I use it. I have no reason to suspect it will give up the ghost, I am just curious as to how it will perform in the long term.
I didn't try the regular shaft so my apologies for the lack of a review on this.
The fit and finish of the overall cue is really up there with the best cues. The BEM used in this cue is so beautiful. Thirty year old BEM from the McDaniel shop. There are two other cues like this, one being in the Fatboy (Eric) Collection and the other in the Icon (Jeff) Collection. Glad I could add one of these to the Diamond Collection.
