I got this e-mail in my junk e-mail box.
Is this for real?
I have used it to link pictures on AZB.

*What is 3rd Party Hosting?

Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.

Why Photobucket?

Photobucket is the global destination for linking and 3rd party hosting. In Photobucket’s 14-year history, the Company amassed over 100 million registered users, over 15 billion images stored, 2 million daily uploads and 10 billion photos accessed monthly.

Easy to Use – Upload a photo from any device and copy the embed code with one click to host a photo with no development or technical knowledge required

Competitive, fixed pricing Offers the only unlimited 3rd party hosting plan (Commercial and Personal Use)

Are my pictures still safe?

Yes! All your photos are still available by logging into your Photobucket Account. Photobucket has only restricted the ability to view your photos on 3rd party sites.

Can I download my Photos?

Absolutely, at any time. It is an easy four step process:

Step 1. Login to your Photobucket Account

Step 2. Navigate to your library page

Step 3. View a photo and click the download button

Step 4. The picture will be saved to your computer

10 of these on the first page of the 'Funny pics/gif thread'.....
....I've never used them....but it seems they're committing corporate suicide.

If you're not paying for the service, then the sponsors for the pop-up ads are paying to keep the lights on. If you don't upgrade or come back, then you're not likely the type of customer that photobucket would want to retain in the future. Common strategy is offer the service for free or below cost (like Uber) to get majority market share. Once you drive out the competition or become the killer app in your segment, then start charging.

there are so many popup adds that it is not usable any way

Download and save all your PB pics. Open a Imgur acct. and upload.

Horrible idea. What happens if Imgur goes out of business, or decides to start charging for 3rd party hosting like photobucket did? Or what if you want to delete your account with them at some point? Same thing happens, all your pictures everywhere you have posted them will disappear.

The only thing that makes good sense is to not use 3rd party hosting and to just upload your pictures here when you post them so that they will be there forever unless you intentionally decide to delete them.

I've said it before, stop messing around with photobucket. Comes with worse cookies and spyware and infestation than anything else.

Take a picture, download to your computer, change the size to large document, and post it here under Management Attachments. It's that simple.

I've never used Photobucket, and I don't want to. Made the mistake one time of opening up a photobucket picture, then my computer kept getting swamped with photobucket pictures in the google desktop. Took forever to clean them out. Stop using that crapware.

All the best,
WW

Agreed 100%!! The last 2 times I used that crap site it took me days running scans for malware and spyware to get my PC right again. First time, I thought maybe it was a fluke, the second time... I'm done with them.
