The Jensen Cues Thread

Hey there,

I have played with a Jensen for almost 10 years now. By far, Mike makes one of the best playing custom cues out there. Also, just a darn nice guy to do business with (and his wife!)

Finally got my 4 point after getting a steal on ebay. It just recently arrived after Mike cleaned it up and I must say I was just stunned at the quality. First of all the cue was in almost new condition, and the quality of the woods are excellent. Simple 4 point, but I think its timeless in its look. You can see the silly deal I got for this cue on the thread below:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=46235&highlight=jensen+steal

Here are my Jensen cues (some of the pics are not in order, but you can figure it out!):

1-Bacote Jump/Break Cue with Liptis shaft and Ostrich leather wrap

2-4 point ebony with 4 veneers, mammoth ivory ferrules, leather wrap, and silver rings

3-Older but still pretty BEM, with gray stain, ebony collars, mother or pearl, and mammoth ivory ferrules

Check out the pics with the mammoth ivory ferrule! Puts elephant ivory to shame. On a side note, I think American cue builders use way too much ivory in their cues. There is no chance there is that much pre-ban ivory legally still in the market from the 70's. And if there is, then way too much ivory was culled during that period. Use mammoth ivory!!!!

Anyways, I won't play with anything else! Please post any pics you have of you Jensens!

Cheers,

Newbie to the Board

...I need a photography course. Mine's a player not a looker but thought I'd contribute. Mike loves bacote for those who've talked to him. Gotta love those milk dud tips. How's that liptis shaft feel btw?

The one I have had for quite some time.... Wrap was recently done by JW Petree.. used to be linen. I don't have pics of another Jensen I owned at one time, but I must say that Mike's cues are absolutely for the player... I love mine!

here is the before pic of my Jensen...
kinda has a yellowed tint to it because of the bad finish job..
it also has spider cracks in the finish.. i guess mike had a problem
doing finish's years ago.. seen alot of his cues like that (older ones of course)
Mike to me he made this cue in 1990....

sent it out to be refinished long ago... so when i get it back i will
be sure to post updated pics....

I love the shaft. Rock solid and jumps full balls with no effort. Still getting used to it for breaking. It has a rounded phenolic (?) ferrule that holds chalk, and gets the cue ball moving really fast. The Jump cue was another lucky find on ebay. He will make a shaft for about $200-$250, or the whole jump cue for $500.

The milk dud tips are excellent. They are on all my playing cues right now.

Bump for the ol Jensen thread. There must be some new ones out there! Let's see em!

playability?

I'm very curious as to how these Jensen cues play, since I have yet to play with one. I have seen one in person and it looked great! I just can't talk the guy out of it :( lol So, how do these cues play? Stiff, firm, what would YOU compare the "hit" to? I'll own one sooner or later, I just wanna know what I'd be in for.
