Bug's daughter called me last night. Bugs has been moved to another hospital. South Shore Hospital. Pho # and address no longer matter. His next stop is a hospice. Just about everything has stopped working. Liver, lungs, eating etc. I'll try to get out there one more time. Whether he will be able to acknowledge me is another matter. Once more, thanks to everyone who helped out and even thanks to those who wished they could have. His family is still in tough shape. His mother is alive but not doing too good, his daughter, Sandrea just had heart surgery herself. She said to thank everyone. It's still amazing that she never knew, until now, that her father was a champion.

Freddy, I hope he is conscious enough to know that you are there with him when you visit. Being a friend to him and making a visit as the end nears has a value beyond measure. I hope I have a friend or two who will do the same for me. I know that you are an emotional guy and that it may be hard for you to see him in his current condition, but you know it's the right and best thing to do. Even if he doesn't seem to be conscious that you are there, hold his hand and talk to him for a bit - he may be aware of your presence at some level and be comforted by your being there.

Freddie,

True friends are few and far between. These are the times we never want to see but are the times that True friends come together.

He'll know you're there.

My prayers to Bugs, his family and you, a True Friend.

Wow, I didnt realize he was this serious, It came up fast, too fast. Bless his family. Thanks Freddie-go see him again you wont regret it.

Hey bro, he probably can still hear you. Tell him funny stories and talk to him about pool games. He may not answer you, but you may see a smile on his face.

You got a good heart Frederico!

a prayer for LBR

for our brother L "B" R......

THE TWENTY-THIRD PSALM

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil: my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Who'll be next???

This is a sad thread. We laugh a lot here at AZB, playfully woof and cut up our buddies, exchange ideas, give opinions....and now, our hearts are a little more heavy after reading Fred's post.

A couple of thoughts....
1. People sometimes talk down about pool / pool players. Well, if it wasn't for the pool players in Bugs' lfe, like Freddy and his other pals, how much earthly comfort would Bugs have had in his seemingly last days here? That his friends rallied and showed some support with the raffle project (thanks again to Steve Booth / Onepocket.org and all those who were able to help), I think Bugs' heart was touched deeply. How could it not have been? Imagine if someone did that for YOU, how would it make you feel?

2. So many of pooldom's great players have passed on recently. But, so many of our own family, friends and other people all around us are dying off just as fast. Who'll be next? We don't know. So, we ought to try our best to live in such a way that when it's OUR time to die, we can leave a legacy that people will really remember. I would love to be remembered as a loving, kind hearted man who loved God, his family and friends. (Who wouldn't want to be remembered like that?) But, if you died right now, at this very moment, how would it be for you? Are we spending the right time with our family? Are we a good example to our children and mates?
Do we have the kind of attitude that makes people want to be around us more, or do we repel people? We all have choices to make every day on how we'll live. Let's make the right moves here.

3. Many of us have a belief system about an after-life. I'm a Christian who believes that all of us have sinned and are in need of Salvation and being forgiven. The Bible says that "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." It also says in 1 John 5:11-12 that "eternal life is in His Son (Jesus), and he who has the Son (Jesus) has life, and he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." I learned a long time ago that this life we have in this world is just a flash. Before we know it, somebody will be mourning over us. And then what?
The point I'm trying to make is that stuff like this should be a wakeup call for all of us. Because a famous and beloved pool player is seemingly on his last days, that should also remind us that soon, that will be you and me. Whatever you believe about an after life, or God, I think this is a nice time to take a personal inventory on our own life as well. How is it with YOUR soul? Me, I'm going to trust that God is truthful and IS willing to forgive us, if we only trust in Him and in His great love for us.

4. If you believe in prayer, how about we ask the Lord for His blessing and favor on Leonard Rucker, on his family and his friends who love and care for him.

Very sad news, my thoughts and prayers are with Bugs and his family, thank you Freddy for all you have done.

Aint going back no more

Went to South Shore hospital this morning. I aint going back no more. I just can't take it. Bad as Bugs looked before, he looked way worse today. Amazingly, and it was the only good news of the day, he recognized me and was semi-lucid. Artie Bodendorfer wanted me to call him while I was there and I did. Bugs did acknowledge Artie also but had much trouble hearing over the phone. I told him he was in everybodys prayers throughout the country and I think he was moved by that. As it stands, there aint many things still funtioning for him, so its just a matter of time. Later I'll do a little requiem, but right now I aint in the mood.

Soory to hear Bugs is deteriorating. His diabetes has been brutal. God bless you Freddy for being a kind warrior in that spot.
