A few weeks ago, the spot shot without CB hitting a rail, i played around with it and I cant do it, now i do remember making it years ago but I honestly cant remember how I did it, I wasnt as good of a player then but I could do it sometimes-never regularly, Because I forgot about it, I made a thread asking if my mind was playing tricks on me or if it was a makeable shot-killing the rock, and a few people reminded me that I wasnt brain dead-that it is possible, after trying it the other day i remember the shot, problem is I cant do it now-not even close. When I did it it was on Stevens cloth(slow fuzzy stuff from the past) someone said its possible on 760 and I believe them, but I cant remember the english etc. Inside draw??? What would be great is a Youtube clip of it, I'm sure Eric Yow can do it easily-I would love to see it, Thanks.

I always hit it as a half-ball hit and slow rolled it into the corner pocket. Haven't shot it in a long time. But this is how I remember it. Cue ball just never had enugh speed to hit the bottom rail.
It takes a "slip-stroke" with outside bottom with very, very little speed. Obviously you will have to hit the OB fuller in order to account for the spin.
Their used to be this old-timer named Jimmy Albritton from back home that had a hell of a "slip-stroke" and he taught me that shot as well as others. That old man knew ALOT, not only about pool, but he knew how to get the CHEESE.
It is a hell of a shot, but the shooter is the favorite most of the time. What I mean by that is, if he gets up there he better be able to get the cheese. I love the gaff shots, but once again the shooter(contestant) is usually the favorite(OR HE BETTER BE ANYWAY). IMO
Edited to add this.................

Isn't there a way to put some "swerve" on the cue ball to force it into a fuller hit with the spotted ball?
As in, if you shoot from the bottom left corner to make the spotted ball in the top right, put some inside masse english on the cue to get the hit.
And yes it would obviously "swerve" due to the spin that is put on the cue ball as well as the SLOW speed of the shot.
It is definitely not "inside" english. that would give you the opposite effect. In other words it would throw it AWAY from the pocket instead if INTO the pocket. But you are on the right track, you just had you facts backwards.
Give it a shot and much luck to you!

This is one of those unique shots that everyone thinks they know how to make it but few really do. Since you are all my buddies except for the guy who left us and is no longer part of the forum I will share the secret with you. It is a secret only because VERY FEW know how to make it. I was going to tantalize you with talk about partial masse, super curve etc. but I will tell you the way the shot has to be made. Normally I don't give out these secrets but since Bob Jewett gave up one the other day, I figure I can be almost as magnanimous. It is not an easy shot but one that you can make with practice once you know how. The deceivers will tell you many different ways the shot is made simply because they don't want you to know. There are many "secrets" out there and not many are willing to share them without it costing a pound of flesh.
Put the cue ball approximately one ball's distance from the side rail. When the sweaters are looking, jack up real high and try masseing the cue ball into the object ball. After a couple of dozen tries and when the naysayers start their negative talk, ask for the traditional 25 shots to make it. They will offer you ten. Take 20 shots for a pound of flesh and make it in 15 only because you choose to.
You should be able to make it in a lot less after you know the secret.
Now here's the deal, you can't tell anyone who isn't an AZer how its done. If that's cool with you, then read on. If you can't accept that condition and you still want to know how the shot is done, then you can be just like Low Down Eddie Brown and just do what you want regardless of what people think about you.
Ok, just a few more sentences.

OK, THAT'S ENOUGH- HERE GOES.
Put the cue ball one balls' width away from the side rail in the kitchen on the head string. Shoot with the cue tip WITH two tips below center but don't try to draw the cue ball. This is a drag stroke where the cue ball spinning backwards for about 30% of its travel distance toward the object ball. It is approximately a half ball hit, where the object ball travels at a 30% cut angle. The key is to slow up the speed of the cue ball so that once it loses its back spin it will be rolling barely hard enough to make the object ball and will have little remaining speed so that it runs out of steam before hitting the foot rail. You can even move the cue ball out further if you choose but this is approximately where I set the cue ball.

Damn Joey, give it up man. He's right, it's a "kill" shot. I like to shoot it where the cue ball doesn't start turning over until it's past the side pocket. If you've got a decent stroke, you should make it every five to ten tries. I wouldn't take less than 15 though. It's not exactly a hanger.

AW GEEZE, I thought that Fatboy was going to slip up on you and take you for a C note or two and I would get a little jelly. How am I ever going to make any jelly?
Who was that guy who wanted to start traveling around the country gambling at pool? Maybe I can hook up with him and make some jelly.

That certainly works, but it's less consistent than just slow rolling it. The only reason to use drag draw on this shot is so you don't have to slow roll it and risk a bad table roll. In fact, if you know the rolloff you can just compensate your aim for it and slow roll the shot anyway.
The reason is this: if the drag draw "wears off" farther than a few inches from the object ball the cue ball will be rolling fully by the time it hits the OB anyway, so it's the same as slow rolling it all the way.
I slow rolled this shot several times in the last five minutes on new Granito Basalt (equivalent to Simonis 860) - made it about 2/3 of the time.
Just another factoid for those who find them useful.

What about http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=74712
? I imagine that you just never had a chance to view that post and wring your hands in eager anticipation. I might get Fatboy to stake me. Nah, he wouldn't stake me against you. What was I thinking?

Doesn't matter how you hit. At pocket speed (for the object ball), all english (top, bottom, left, right, etc) is either long gone or completely useless by the time the cue ball gets to the object ball. The cue ball will simply have natural roll.
All you need is to hit the object ball at pocket speed and cheat it to the bottom as best you can. That is, undercut it just a hair. Don't shoot center pocket, or overcut it. I shoot from 1 chalk off the rail, and aim on the center line of the cue ball. This is just a hair of top from this close to the rail.
Pretty easy shot really. As requested, here is my video of this shot. 5 in a row, missed the last one. But you get the idea. You can easily make this 10 in a row. Just hit it soft...
BTW, my table is has simonis 860 on it, and the balls are Belgian aramith pro (not that it matters for this shot)
I used to show this shot but I hit it with the draw like Joey is talking about with inside english. The inside english seems to make you hit the ob more full, of course the shot is much tougher. I've seen people make it without any english at all too, but not as consistently and they come much closer to the rail when they finally do accomplish it.

Thomas, I don't know how you made 5 in a row but if you ever see me at a pool tournament, I will pay to see you make it 3 in a row. Your table at the time of the shot, wouldn't have a lean toward the kitchen would it?
Just shooting this shot "slow" with rolling top spin won't get the job done on any level table I have ever seen.
Cheating the pocket would mean hitting the ob with more than a 1/2 ball hit meaning that most of the energy of the shot was obsorbed by the ob and the cb wouldn't roll as far as the ob. Right? Hitting above center on the cb won't make any difference as the speed of the shot means no follow would be applied.
