Carved Ivory Tusk

Touchy gray area subject.
I picked up a ivory tusk at an estate sale. About 31 inches long. Thin end looks to be repaired.
Any value for cue makers? Keep it is a work of art?
Any opinions are welcome.

I highly doubt there is much material that a cue maker could use. The problem is, even if there was enough material, I don't know any cue maker that would touch it with a 10' pole. Unless a piece of ivory has really clear legal documentation, it's not worth the risk. There are man made materials like elforyn if you want the look.

It's a pretty neat piece of artwork, I'd just keep it for that. I'd also keep a receipt of purchase with it just in case.

Does the price of purchase indicate that it is real ivory, lots of resin based carved ivory tusk out there....

People running the estate auction I got it from advertised it as ivory.

Do you see this pattern (Schreger lines) on your tusk?

No Schreger lines visible looks wrong, color looks wrong, surface quality looks wrong.

I offered some ivory to Jim Buss 15 years ago, give or take. I know my parents purchased it in China late 70's -early 80's.
I saw the stuff they came back with from their Far East trip. Saved up for 2 years to do that one.

Jim didn't want anything to do with it.

We were casual friends for many years. He knew what I had was real, and believed my story 100%.
I had no proof.
Therefore
No Deal!!!
