I just read the article about Devil Dave's cue.

If anyone knows Devil Dave their is a poem
by David E. Malone called "The Blood Red Cue".

Dave may (or may not) be interested in
displaying this poem with his cue.

Just a thought.

It was a great article, unbelievable really, even though true.
Thank you Devil Dave for sharing that with Az.

I know he didn't get the gallon of Chivas Regal back but what about all those big deposits?

Very unfortunate and uncanny coincidences, indeed.

Great write up, but I have to say:

If Devil Dave asks you to make him a cue . . .

best,

Great story and fantastic cue! Unfortunately, I have had two similar experiences, but not quite such fantasticly fancy cues. Kerry Zeiler (Zylr Cues) was almost finished with my birdseye cue (just handle, wrap and shafts), with all his bells and whistles, when he died last year. His longtime friend and apprentice, Joey Bautista, graciously offered to finish it but it was coming out too heavy for me to use, so Joey gave me a refund of my deposit and probably still has the cue, as I believe it was Kerry's last. Also, unfortunately, Mark Bear was almost finished with my cue (also just handle, wrap, shafts to finish) when he died. I had just received an email from him saying it was first on his agenda if/when the doctor cleared him to go back to the shop, and sadly he didn't get the ok. This was going to be an amazing cue, six points of ebony into brazilian rosewood with kangaroo wrap, using my wood, that he had been working on for almost three years. I have tried to contact his family/friends, but no word has come back on what happened to it...if anybody knows I'd appreciate knowing too. RIP Kerry and Mark, both great cuemakers and friends.

Jinx ??

I got my Fanelli a few months before
he passed.

Mark Bear had been working on a cue for me when he
passed away. Mark said all that was left to
do were the shafts. I suspected something
was wrong so I told him I would take
the butt "as is" and pay whatever he felt I owed
him on it. Rather than send the cue Mark
returned my deposit ???

If anyone knows anything my offer still stands.
The butt is traditional Szam colors and design.

Right now I'm having another cue built which
will be very similar to the one Mark
was working on. If anything happens to
this builder I'm never ordering another cue.

I'll just have to live with the ones I have.

Hey Devil, our good friend Paul Fanelli passed away on January 18, 2011, 4 months shy of his 65th birthday, but you knew that right?
