Yes it sure does. It has a reaI close relative in Mexico called Chakte-Viga. I have a species confirmation and a CITES tag from Cook on this piece of wood when It passed through customs into the US. It's been banned for several years now. This was one of the last pieces that Cook got through pre-ban in 2007. I feel fortunate that it turned out this well in a cue. It could have very well fallen into the hands of a violin maker.
I like the fact that Doug was able to assemble it conventionally, spliced with an A joint, without it being cored, and still have it come in under 18 and a half oz. It's easily one of my favorite playing cues that I've had to date. Built in 2010.
