Looks like we're heading to Painted Post, NY to install a 9' Diamond Professional Monday morning. If anyone needs any work done on the way back to Ohio, let me know.

Josh, where is Painted post NY close to. It would be great to hook up with you and Donny if our paths are close to crossing.

I've never been there, but it looked a little south of Buffalo. I think we're loading the table Sunday around noon. We'll head that direction, but are planning on arriving at the house Monday morning, so we will have some time to kill somewhere in between. I'd love to work together again, but it doesn't look like we'll be that far towards you, will we? Where exactly are you located?

I was going to be in the Lake Placid area. It looks like about 300 miles to Buffalo. I'll be sure to see you guys at the SBE in March.

Be well

Painted post is actually closer to Rochester than Buffalo. If you take RTE 86 out of Erie it is the most direct route. There are a few things worth a stop down there Corning Glass Works is kind of interesting. Watkins Glen Race track is about 15- 20 miles away and there is an Indian Casino in Salamanca which is halfway between Erie and Painted post.

That is God's country in NY as is Lake Placid not a lot there, just some little towns every 40 - 60 miles along the route. Foxy Gary is about an hour east of where you will be in Painted Post but I think he has his rail situation under control now.

Cool I appreciate the information. I might have to avoid the casino on this trip though. I think I lost about 800 at the Horseshoe while working on the DCC!

I know what you mean. I have trouble driving by a casino though. Sometimes I think it would be easier and cheaper to just drive up to the front door throw $200 in the door and leave calling it my contribution for the day..

Headed out from Columbus shortly. We're going to stop at Fiddlestix in Canton to bang around some league rules 8 ball. Anyone in that area want a little buck a rack action? LOL

NY delivery finished and looking pretty good! Since some of you called me out ;) I've got some pictures on the way. However, It's 4am and we just got into a hotel room a little while ago, so you'll have to wait until I'm conscious again. Can you stand the suspense?

Ready to load up another 9' Diamond Professional and take it back to the factory tomorrow for a refinish before delivery. Just hope they get the roads cleared!!! Columbus, OH is BAD right now, and I heard Louisville area is just as bad. Wish us luck!!!

Here's what the snow looked like at UDF in Columbus that night. It got piled up pretty good within just a few hours.

Roads were great all the way from Painted Post, NY until about 10 miles outside of Columbus and then we hit a stretch of highway with about 12 vehicles off the road within about 2 miles. Before we pulled in here, we passed a Sheriff who I'm pretty sure would have pulled us over had we not pulled in. I heard they were giving out tickets for being on the roads that night. LOL

As promised, here are some pictures Don and I took while installing, recover and shimming this table.

The slate levelling was pretty routine, and pictures don't show much there anyway so I didn't take any of that step. I use a single Starrett 98-8 but have another on the way. I use index cards to wick and glue the slate and bondo to seal the seam.

We took the original facings off:

OldFacings2.jpg

Glued the new ones from Diamond on using 3M10:

Cut them down close with a sharp blade, then sanded flush with a belt sander.

Here's one of the new ones trimmed and sanded down:

Then covering the rails is pretty routine, but I took pictures so you guys can see my work. Do you see any stretch shadows?

Then we use the 3M10 and variation of Glen's gluing method on the slate. I'm still impressed at how well that glue works and laugh when I think about the first time I heard him say he could get cloth tighter with glue than with staples. I'll never doubt again! LOL

Again, do you see any stretch shadows?

I don't think my pockets look quite as good as Glen and Donnie's and some others I've seen on here. I know you guys trim the edge of the cloth different instead of pulling and stapling the "ears" on the side. I'm open to any other suggestions to make these look even better, but they do look 10x better than the old way!

And the finished product:

Alright, let's hear some feedback besides my need to learn how to use a camera in bad lighting conditions! ;)

I bet the customer was very happy he hired you Josh. The table looks great.. Thanks for the pictures now I see what everyone is talking about when they talk about Diamond's tables. After taking my Olehausen apart I can see some definite attention to detail that Diamond has that Olehausen is missing. The dadoe on the edge of the rail to recess the cloth stapling and the 3 screws in the plates which hold the rail bolts .. nice touches!

Question.. The cushions seem to extend beyond the top rail was this due to tightening the pockets or is this an optical illusion because the pockets screw in from the bottom and take up that 3/4 inch space around the curve of the pocket. Hope my question makes sense..

The only comment I have is,... very, very, very nice pictures.....Table work is better than the pictures. And as Forrest Gump would say That's all I have to say about that"

See ya soon Good Buddy
Jay

Josh, very nice work....that Glen has everyone doing the jobs very well his way.
The glue system is the nuts....as is the french fold for finishing the pockets.

Glen really loves what he does....I talk to him everyday.............FOR HOURS. LMAO

Looks like we are all going in the right direction, and Glen is a big part of everything.
Like his ego wasn't big enough.....I take that back....I forgotten how fast he could pull my head off.....SORRY..LOL

Nice work Josh....Good luck with Diamond.

QUOTE]

Take the handle off that belt sander first of all. Second, sand across the facing in the direction of the cushion, sanding the way you're sanding pulls the facing away from the cushion and the bond, and you'll have a tendency to sand in a down-ward angle. When you sand across the facing to-wards the cushion, the cushion acts as an alignment gage to keep your sander as flat as possible, without pulling on the facing.

Good job Josh & Don. And the only thing Donny has on you is that he got about 3 weeks or so with me, whereas you only got 4 days or so;) but that'll soon change:D
