Money is money.
Illustrates to me that buying the same cue any pro uses is foolish...better to buy a cue YOU like... I'm not saying the cues the pros use are bad cues, but I am saying that there are lots of good playing cue brands out there that don't sponsor a pro. Also, other than giving a pro a cue, few custom cue builders can afford to sponsor a top pro.
Curious to see what equipment he chooses to use from the J.Flowers selection.

Since he came over to the states he's used Lucasi, Meucci and Peri. That's only three if my math is any good. JF would make four. Not unusual number of cue deals imo. The GOAT Efren switched cues as often if not more often.
Why is it 'a shame'? He's a pro and he's going to take the best deal out there. Not JS fan by any means but there's nothing wrong with their cues. Few if any pros play with hi-end customs. They all use production cues and a lot are Chin./Taiwan sourced.
What's the normal term for a cue deal?
That's not readily handy info. but just a WAG would be 3yr deal. Dollar amounts will vary based on the player and his record etc.

I think JFlowers has at least 4 players signed now including Shaw. That would be Earl, Rodney, Dennis and now Shaw, I suspect that there's not a damn thing wrong with their cues. Maybe between the Flowers, and Rhino cues a little pressure will be applied to Revo and all the other over priced cues to lower their prices by about 30 per cent.
In the past I have heard of everything from low six figures per year to the player gets product that he has to sell.
Talk about Mfgger endorsing the player...

I always said when you see someone on social media ask what is the best playing cue if some one gives an answer don’t take their advice for anything lol there is none. One persons piece of dead wood is another’s magic wand .
Anyway when you have the god given ability he does you can change cues as much as you want.
from what i've heard jayson had to flog a lot of peri cues in that deal. they're quite expensive and not easy to sell. i would guess this new deal isn't weighted as much towards moving product. but idk.

Friend visited LV and came home with a JFlowers. Plays pretty well with it. He used to struggle with a gunky Schon. It's probably the slickness that improved his shooting.
