FWIW, many years ago, all they had were single layer leather tips - and they worked just fine...

I think that Samsara has recently created a leather break tip. Correct me if I'm wrong. White Diamonds are not leather they are resin and fiber tip.

the black water buffalo single layer tips are very hard & work very well.

But, one time for grins i took a lepro tip & put it in a C clamp & cranked it down as far as i could & every once in a while i'd crank it another 1/4 turn as the leather compressed.....two days later i had a tip that was harder than anything i've ever seen.

I prefer a Sumo brand (water buffalo hide) tip. Just like all those late night kitchen gadget commercials; "Set it and forget it" PLus, it holds chalk well for me.

I used to be a huge fan of sumos, but the last couple I have had were dry and horrible. They ended up cracking off. Anyone know if this has changed? Older sumos were all I ever used.
