2024 Predator Billiard Series (PBS) tour kicks off today first with Las Vegas Open (Men & Women) 21-24Feb
It will be followed by 2 inaugural invitationals (Mixed Doubles https://probilliardseries.com/vegas-2024/mixed-doubles/ this Sunday 25Feb and Women Showdown next week 27Feb-1Mar https://probilliardseries.com/vegas-2024/pbs-women-showdown/ ) culminating in the jewel in crown of 10 ball -the World 10 Ball (Men) Championship 27Feb-2Mar.

Field
Leaving aside the quirky shootout format, both men and women events of Las Vegas Open boast super strong fields.
25x800+ in men’s field (slightly stronger than next week’s World 10 Ball 2024 field). Shaw not playing in this event while Lee Van, Roland Garcia, Sanjin not playing in World 10 ball.
Women’s field has the 2 top women with highest Fargorate Chen Siming and Han Yu in the mix.

Thanks for this. It would be great if every tournament had all the links in a post like this. Makes it easier to find everything

In the Chang-McBride match, Chang repositioned the cue ball for the lag and was called for a lagging foul.

It happened again in the Maciol/Chao match. The commentators, wrongly, kept saying it was because the player was placing the edge of the ball over the line.

So I guess that's the rule -- the ref places the balls for the lag and the players cannot move them. I think that happened in another event recently, but I don't remember when or where.

commentary is weird, some matches super loud and some half normal. are they doing it remotely?

This is referee mistake. If they follow WPA regulations, player can move the ball for lag shot. There is nothing in regulations that prohibit it. Also not mentioned in the tournament protocol and player information leaflet.

And for another goody, the Van Boening/Hijikata match was played with alternating breaks within each set. Neither the ref nor the players knew the rule.

Not the first time referees have no clue what the rules are, pity also players do not know them.

best,

Yes the commentators caught napping. It happened in I think in previous Predator event also. Just silly technicality that referee applied.
Don't see anything in WPA rules https://wpapool.com/rules/ Unless ref calling moving the ball a foul even before game officially starts i.e. "a lag will be bad if any non-object-ball foul occurs other than 6.9 Balls Still Moving."

Real shocker. :ROFLMAO:Ref asleep at switch. Commentators Mika and Tim spotted it but probably cos they are remote not able to alert ref.
Happened in both sets. Rack 3 in set 1 and rack 4 in set 2

Somemore, they just tied up with EPBF for refs https://probilliardseries.com/pbs/epbf-partnership/

The ref placing the balls for the lag has been standard at carom billiards for a long time. The player is never allowed to touch the cue ball with his hand -- there is no "ball in hand" at carom.

I hope the PBS has some cash in reserves to rassl with Public Broadcasting Stations.

Ask the WWF about that one.

that girl is something else.
I was watching when she made that. Incredible shot. Like Earl once said, "If Efren made that shot, they'd show it for 20 years."

Centeno is so much fun to watch play.
