At the Joint Base Balad-Iraq in, April 2009, the security force used for most of the routine, boring security jobs on base is the Ugandan Guards.

These are contract employees from Uganda. They are young folks who all formerly served in the Ugandan Army at some point. In order to make more money, they sign up to do security work for a contractor, and they come here to Iraq. The average pay is about $600 to $1,000 a month, which is a very good income considering the alternatives in employment in Africa. When it was more dangerous in Iraq, they were paid more, nearly double their current pay. They are not mercenaries, and are never sent out on missions.

Here's a picture of the Ugandan Guards playing pool on the base during their off time.

Ya they really really ruined those tables i tried to play there but the smell of arm pits and bad body oder made it hard for me to play there.

Air Force side was much better.....

JJ, is that a picture of you in the green shirt?

Both look like great places but Triangle looks like somewhere I'd like to spend time.

Its a toss up between this thread and the Funny Gif and Joke thread.

Family is the essence of pool for sure. Back in the mid 90's there was plenty of action!! Everything from the horses to $500 scotch double matches. Straight pool beads for counting... Crazy one-pocket spots.. Ring games... Pill pool. Pretty much everything!! Dimly lit and pillows of smoke with the rail full by sweaters by noon to 3pm everyday.

When I go back nowadays its mostly empty. A few regulars or fixtures are now ghosts and they only play one-pocket or Golf on the diamond table. Still this place at one time was a big time action hall and im glad I got to be part of that.

Oh and no Im not the kid in thr green shirt. This is me....

Now that sounds exciting by your description.
Sadly, times have changed. But, like you said, at least you got to witness it and be part of the action for awhile.

Chalkers in San Francisco. This was my home room when I lived out there. Too bad it closed its doors forever in 2003 :(

In this photo you see the middle pocket of the 12 x 6 snooker table. The table near the cue rack on the left is a 5 x 10 antique brunswick (year unknown) and the table on right side of a doorway (cant see it) is another antique gully brunswick. Dont know the exact year but im pretty sure if was from the 1930's. Oh and the gentleman hitting the masse shot is the same guy in my avatar. Billy "The Kid" Aguero who was the house pro :)

Belltown Billiards in Seattle Washington. I was the house pro there from 05-06. Nothing to really brag about (turned into a nightclub and they took out a bunch of tables :rolleyes) but it was a nice place right before I left...

Elevated waiting chair to watch matches next to the pool control counter.

those chairs are a different color now. the swinging doors on the right lead to a 5 by 10 table.
