I remember a place called the Corner Pocket down there and believe there was a good one pocket player in town, maybe the owner at one time. Not sure if it is still there or what goes on anymore.

Du Quoin

I live in Illinois...... and I've never heard of that place.

Sorry

Maybe it's a generation thing but i find it hard to believe that a resident
of Illinois never heard of Du Quoin. The Hambletonian ,one of the premier
trotting races, was held here from the late 50's to 1980.
But more specifically to this forum it was the location for many years
of Minnesota Fats' home room.Fatty lived in Dowell just 4 mile south
and played pool and gin-rummy daily in a pool-room downtown Du Quoin.
I disremember the room's name but it had lots of action in the late 70's.
The whole area gambled with Carbondale and the famous Johnson City
being nearby.I would be devastated if there were no more pool halls around.

If you do find a pool room and play the 1-pocket ghost be prepared
for a lot of sharking.Fatty's out-rageous stories and high-rolling will
have you missing hangers but you'll be laughing too hard to care.

ps - Powerline
Would like a detailed report when you get there. thanx

Carbondale, IL is not that far away and had a couple pool halls it is a college town (SIUC) . I have not been there for a few years but it was rated as one of the top party schools years ago the tables where not the best but we always had fun. You could look up how far it is to Fairview Heights IL it has a nice pool hall Baxters. I want to say it is about a 1 hour and 15 min drive.
