Actually, Palmer applied finish to the back-ends of the 3rd Catalog cues.
Palmer used an epoxy finish on 3 rd catalog cues that was also applied over the Delrin buttcap- bad choice- the epoxy often yellowed, chipped, crackled on the wood and the Delrin butt cap. cue makers have a hard time with refinish on these epoxied Palmers. I believe that not every 3 rd catalog Palmer was epoxied, but I have seen and owned some that were and I would avoid them in the future unless they were still pristine- rare!
