Have you checked other table manufacturers offerings here in 2024 and how they are built? If you do a search in this forum the real pool table mechanics, who work on pool tables for money always seem to agree that the table's structural design is where it all begins. I have never played on a GC V, but I am sure they are great tables to play on when setup properly. The GC is a wood framed piece used to hold up the slates, where other tables use a metal frame and engineered wood to hold up the slates. The Rasson Ox uses a metal frame and aluminum prefabricated adjustment slab to support the slate pieces. A new GC V is a good sized investment and it might be best to find a billiard supply or pool room that does have a GC V in their mix and play on the table for a few hours. You will get a feel for the table to see if it is to your liking, along with seeing how a properly installed GC V is supposed to play. You can then have a basis on weather your new GC V home install is done correctly.

Not a mechanic… how bad can a GCV be if in good condition or restored (rails, etc).
Maybe RKC will check in here.

The GC is made to take the abuse in the commercial sector. The rail rubber and cloth are consumables for the most part. Did the GC get submerged in flood waters? Was a VW parked on top of the table for a long period of time? GC Vs when new aren't cheap. People and business's that do invest in GCs usually take care of them.
