i dont care how long hes been here....
ive been reading this site since it started...but never signed up. since it seems to matter to you.

you ever seen a schon with inlay flaws not marked #2????
i havent....better yet,

you ever seen someone buy a new cue with flaws and not send it back to the manufacture or retailer for a refund...and then gripe about there piss poor crooked cue, with shotty inlay work, and how poor it hits on the internet pool forum but they actually bought the cue, why did be buy it? better yet who buys a playing cue without hitting with it first???
reminds me of a guy who bashes chevy and tells everyone not to buy one because the motors blow.....but he bought the car used with no service records and only test drove it around the block.

i dont get some people i guess. mattter of fact id like to see picturs of peoples schon cues with manufacturers flaws.

Pistol pat you mean cues like "Audrick" they look fancy but have piss poor wood in them...they play good for a few months then fall apart. now thats a bad cue

I would think after all of those years you would realize thousands of cues get bought and sold on here without being hit with or looked over first. The longer you have been on here the more respect you command. Your opinion on here means nothing compared to almost everyone else on here.

l:grin-square: oh well.

your handle is Jensen lover....
meaning Jensen cues from southern U.S.?

a good friend of mine had a spliced 4 point from him. (looked like an old school Runde Schon no inlay with stitched ringwork and all...but didnt have the sound, schon hit) his cues are pretty nice. piloted steel joint.....played almost identical to my Pop's jacoby... nice balance just a flat hitting sounding cue(could have been the tip).
yours hit that way too?

When was the last time you saw a 5xx SW?

I have a SW and the pin # is 512-95

Probably when Jerry was still with us. Now that there are only 2 people that are actually making cues in that shop, I would say a 4XX SW might be a rarity.

By the way, that cue you have is awesome. I really like how the ringwork sets off the wood. Congrats on a great (and unique!) SW!

OK this is an old thread , I went through 23 pages and I do not recall seeing

Schick
Searing
Hercek
Barry
Perry Weston
White
Hayley

and numerous others mentioned in a negitive light.

Bender, Gina and Gus had one or two comments about not being what was expected but nothing damning.

I found it interesting reading. The cues that were mentioned in a not so positive light for the most part were also mentioned as exceptions and not as knocks on the maker. For one I appricated reading the not so happy comments as much or more than the best on earth comments I so often see. I think it was Vince Lambardy(SP) that said something to the effect that in the if you strive for perfection you can obtain excellance.

I know that this thread is all opinions but someone actually said that a josey was a limp hit. Wow. Just an opinion but to me Josey cues are very stiff. I wouldnt trade my josey cue for anything.

When I was there there were 4 guys working on cues, and Laurie.

Seems pretty much like an assembly line to me.

It's a good thing Southwest has some guys in the shop learning their methods
so when Mikey retires they can continue to work through their perpetual 10-year waiting list.

How long ago was that? I'm just asking because I thought Laurie said they were down to 2 guys about a year ago, due to health issues. That might have changed though. I was just wondering...

Respect

Well I am a new Member here, only have 3 posts counting this one. So although my opinion may mean nothing.....I feel obligated to to say to other newbies here that I value everyones opinion....I reflect on the info given.....compare it to my own experiences.....discern it's revelance.....and make an informed decision about agreeing or disagreeing with said opinion.

Respect cannot be commanded.....it is earned thru trust and repeated performance. I dare say there are more than a few in this community that have far exceeded the time frame you demand for showing respect......that still betray their ignorance or lack of character by indulging their own egos or closing their minds to an "outsiders" opinion

Join date in april of this year, and that makes you a long timer? Shoot I'm still a short timer and I've been reading this page for about a year longer than my join date.

Beginning to think a lot of the feel and hit is all in the tip and weight. I suppose I haven't played with a lot of the fancy high end cues, but I have shot with a $4000 Lambros, my own personal Lambros Sneaky, Samsara, Sly, all kinds of Predator's, OB, Meucci, Lucasi, Players, and a lot of cheap import cues. To be honest I couldn't really tell the difference it "hit" all that much. I could tell a difference in the weight of the cue and hardness of the tip. At first heavy cues tended to feel very nice and solid, but I now really enjoy the lighter cues and hard tips.

I'd figure weight and tip hardness is where everyone judges a cue. Still might be a newb though.

Although…worst cue I've ever played with was this crooked ass hell, oddly weighted, with a tip longer than the ferrule house cue at union jacks in columbia, md. I mean its not really a pool hall but even for a bar/pub cue…….just damn.

worst cue i used...carmelli, audric and robinson...just my opinion

Jun :)

My Carmelli was a very fickle thing. I had good days when I could play well with it, and bad days where I could hardly make a ball. I didn't think the hit was bad, or that it felt wrong in my hands. I think that it was too whippy. I had someone else try it out for a while, loved it, and he bought it.

Most times, I think that the bad hit of a quality cuemaker's cue is due to what happened to it AFTER it left the cuemaker's shop.

Case in point, I carried a $4k Scruggs cue to SBE in 2004 to sell for a friend. It was a gorgeous cue, tons of ivory, solid ivory joint, and a hit that had a real bad vibration and was almost impossible to move the cue ball with any success/predictability. I found this out when I decided that I would play a match with it...it was a bad mistake.

I did not sell the cue, and when I gave it back to my friend, I told him what I had noticed about the cue. He snickered and said he knew about it. Apparently, he had damaged the joint at some point and had it repaired by someone other than Scruggs who did not do such a good job. While it still LOOKED fine, it wasn't.
Joe

Joe;

I think I would have been mad at that particular fellow for sending me off to sell his damaged then poorly repaired $4k cue without disclosing it's dark past (and present) to me.

best,
brian kc.

40 or 50 year old house Cues play great.

Honestly when you find a Cue that play like S&$t wait for some player who is very good to show you how bad they play with that crappy Cue.

I remember house cues 40 years ago that played like wet noodles, but I also found a few nice ones too. It kind of depends on the house. :)
