is Alejandro Pagulayan Alex Pag?
Barbox or not, if you're a pro pool player pool is your business. When running a business at the end of the day the only thing that matters is the bottom line so traveling half way around the world and needing to get 9-16 to just break even and having to go thru a bunch of momsters doesn't sound like a great business decision.
At the bottom of the scoring web site:

2006. For Pete's sake. Is anyone on the entire internet still using a web site from 2006, let alone for tracking and publicizing a purported world championship?
Of course, vBulletin v.4 was released in 2009 and that's not used here...
Not sure about this but i think Islamic laws in the country strictly prohibit all gambling in Qatar. From what I've always understood, was that the real money is made matching up with said monsters when they are all in one place. The tournament winnings is secondary when you have a backer. The tournament is just an excuse to be there.
Maybe Justin B can chime in if he reads this, but a player of his caliber could not only enter and do some damage on this tournament, but also get some nice action from the global players with possible deep pocket backers who are there right now.
When I talked to Kevin Chang a couple of years ago, he told me they are always playing each other (ko brothers, etc) for money year round. So the action is there. Just have to be there as well.
I understand there is always the risk of going bust, but so goes the life of pro pool players.
I could be mistaken, but that's why I always thought money was to be made.
I guess over there it would be called " a head set" as opposed to a "ahead set". Better get that clear before you flip!!!Not sure about this but i think Islamic laws in the country strictly prohibit all gambling in Qatar.
World 9 ball prolly not much matching up going on lol
Edit... just read this about gambling in Qatar lol
There are a few places which have clear laws against casinos and other betting venues, like Kuwait and Qatar, but the penalties for placing wagers is not obvious. Some reports indicate that at least one gambler was beheaded in 2011 in Kuwait as a penalty for gambling

Here is a snapshot of who is playing and who isn't
They prolly don't allow women to play pool in Qatar lolWhy isn't Simeng Chen playing? Looks like she would be a lock for being in the money

Not to mention people would actually want to go to Toronto. Seriously, Doha? Sounds like something Homer Simpson would say.In my opinion, they should hold it in Toronto.
They have a nice support system there in Jim wych and the Canadian players (especially the Falcon tour from Montreal)
The qualifiers can be held at the corner bank, and then move to the one of many sizeable venues Toronto has to offer. Not impossible for Diamond to bring a truck of tables up so the equipment will be better.
Toronto is a major hub with international travel and easier to get to than NYC when you factor in visa requirements and cost of accommodations.
So if Qatar is pulling it's funding, let Jim and Canada see if they can pull it off and then give them a multi year deal.

Unfortunately, the regional politics are playing out as well.. Normally would expect a lot of participants from Arabian Peninsula--in particular Saudia Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain--but these countries are now not in a good way with Qatar. As you can see there are participants from other regional countries.
Jay, Israel Rota is playing lolI doubt that any players from Israel are there either.
