And we are guaranteed to have at least one woman in the next round since Joanne and Gerda are playing each other.

By my reckoning:

After three days of play, two women remain. Jennifer Barretta has played twice and has one win and one loss. Gerda Hofstatter has played three times and has two wins (one against another woman) and one loss.

The totals thus far for the 14 women are as follows:
  • 27 matches played against the men, with a record of 4 wins (15%) and 23 losses;
  • 431 games played against the men, with a record of 151 games won (35%) and 280 games lost.
  • 2 matches played woman vs. woman.

You also have to think most of the top female players are at the womens 10 ball championship...Jasmin, XTP, Kelly fisher.

Thanks that answers my question as to why Jasmin wasn't playing. As someone who has had success in men's tournaments I was hoping to see her in the US open.

Gerda lost this afternoon, so all the women are now out. Gerda was the only woman in the money, winning $500 for finishing 65th-96th and a $1,000 bonus as the top woman.

Here's an update to the numbers I showed in post #7 of this thread.

  • 9 of the 14 women won no matches;
  • Barretta, Chen, and Laurance each won 1 match and lost 2 matches against men;
  • Mason-Parker split two matches against women and lost 1 match to a man;
  • Hofstatter won 2 matches against men, won 1 match against a woman, and lost 2 matches to men;
  • The women played 30 matches against the men, with a record of 5 wins (17%) and 25 losses;
  • The women played 488 games against the men, with a record of 176 games won (36%) and 312 games lost.

As many others have said, I hope there is no conflict in tournament dates next year and that we will see many more of the top women in this event.

Maybe next year, the women can have their own US Open...

Oh wait, they do already....

Then, maybe the men can play in theirs.

Or maybe we can have what Barry started this year, a tournament with the best players possible, whether they are male or female.

I too am hoping there aren't any conflicts next year, so we can see Allison, Jasmine, Karen and the rest play with the big boys!

Unlikely to have men. The women's is used as a points tournament for the WPBA. It is possible that the women's could be renamed or something as an acknowlegement to being allowed into the traditional open. I'm sure they'll look at that at some point.
