What would be your best way to give up weight and still win? In your own words, how you would go about doing this task! In Nine ball or One Pocket!
Thanks in advance.

Depends on ball weight or wire weight...but IMHO

Rule #1: Don't make a bad game

Rule #2: Don't miss on their money ball

Rule #3: "Never gamble with a Sicilian when life is on the line" (Random movie quote) lmao

*Sorry if this seems a little sarcastic, but I would honestly think that just knowing your own speed and their TRUE speed would help in not making a bad game.

9-Ball...if you are truely better than them, talk them into game weight instead of ball weight...once you catch up, its like playing even and takes a lot of motivation away.

1-Pocket - Try to convince them to only take ball weight on your breaks. Break usually worth 1.5-2 balls so its not that big of a deal.

These are great points, Carl. Never any wire weight! Only breaks and ball weight! Your input is what I asked for. No matter how it sounds... You would never win in a bad game. I appreciate your response very much.

Heh, the old sucker bet in 8 ball ... even though you weren't looking for 8 ball scams...

Tell the mark that you will let them pick up 3 of their balls after the break and take them off the table. :) They always take the problem cluster balls and open the table for a nice and easy run out for you.

The other ridiculous bet option I have offered in 9 ball before ... give them 1 mulligan per game, except it can't be used on the 9 ball or a 9 ball combo. They mess up a safety and try it again and mess it up even worse ... or they miss a tough shot they couldn't put in given 5 more tries, nevermind just one. People just think they are so good that the ONLY reason they lose every game is because of that ONE mistake they made. I usually hear "Yeah, well, if I made that 4 ball you would of been dead in that game." I love when I hear that line, it makes me break out this option right away. :)

this is a case by case answer and way too many variables to consider. it is impossible to give advice without a certain scenario in place.....

Nice answers for how you would give up weight, and win!

PaulieB,
Even the 8 ball way is a good idea. One Mulligan, huh? Thanks for your valued input! It is appreciated.

Thank you, PunchOut, for your input.

It is all about how and what you would do to give up weight and win! In 9 ball, what do you think you can give up and win? One Pocket, same thing? Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Ok, so you mean if you are about even with someone and they are demanding weight?

My first match of One-Pocket EVER and the guy asked me for weight because I was rated higher than him for 9-ball tournaments!!! Played him 9-7...went hill hill, and banked 4 in a row the long way, on the case game, for the win...so...I was lucky. :D

But he was sure he made a fair game...when in fact I was over matched. So lesson learned, if your not comfortable with the spot your opponent is asking for, don't play.

Hello Lockup.

I would rather give a game on the wire in a long race so you have plenty of time to overcome the spot. It also takes some of the luck out of the game especially on bar tables.

What you think professor Lock??

Regards,
Lockup

I do not like to give games on the wire, for no reason at all. I do not consider that weight. If I play better than you do, and we race to 7 games. And I give you 3 games on the wire it is just a matter of time before I run you down. Because I play better than you, and that is the reason for the weight in the first place! That is not getting weight. That is giving up your back side to a match that you will lose!! That method does not even up the playing skills between you and your opponent...

The break makes a big difference as well. You might make the 9 on the break, or make the ball that I am giving you. You might not make a ball and hook me. You may have the 9 ball sitting in a pocket, with the one right behind it, combo time! When you give up balls they can not make the weight balls on the break and it count. Spot the weight ball back on the table, and it is their shot. Or give them the 7 and the last 2 balls and they can't make the other pay balls on the break! Make the 9 on the break and they win.

Again this is not about what I would do! But what you would! Thanks for your input and response, Lockup!

Banking 4 the long way, Luck?

Carl, I think if you play pool well or good and can make balls good, you should be able to win whatever game. One Pocket, just slow your rock speed down, and control the rock. You might win! You already can make balls. Thanks again for your input. You are a good player. Can Lockup get the 6 ball? He, He, He. Lockup is my pool student.

I thank you for your input. Do you mean to tell me that their is no one that you could give up weight to and win? OK, if you say so! Thanks again.

Lock N Load.

Well, maybe one or two. But, certainly no more.
There is really some good info in this post.

I played my wife with the Orange Crush and LOST!!! lmfao. shes no slouch on the table either...but FFS thats a lot of weight. lol.

**For those that don't know "Orange Crush" means she gets the 5 out to win. BUT, they didn't count on the break except the 9. I couldn't make the nine on the break in the back two corners. Any of her balls on the break that I made spotted. And I couldn't foul and make any of her money balls. (she got smart lol).

Race to 7 and I lost, 7-6. she won the bet but I won't get into what the bet was.

I guess another lesson learned...IF you want to practice with pressure, play someone cheap and give them the nuts! something you really have to play your ass off to win. Makes you focus and puts a little more pressure on you.
