Six figure cues....

Looking for opinions...how many 6 figure (>$100,000) cues are out there now...is it 10, 100 or more???

I saw an old thread here that seemed to imply 10 (or more) out there even almost a decade or so ago...has that number gone up in the last decade, since some cue makers work, like made Gus Szamboti's, have probably gone up in average value...or I suppose that the total number could have actually gone down too, given the current market and economic conditions....

Are there any cues at all now (like maybe in the last year) that have known to have sold for 6 figures???

I'd be surprised if there were more than 30, worldwide. And some (most?) of these have that value, in part, due to their well-established, well-heeled provenance. I'd like to think that I own one, an Edwin Reyes masterpiece. I guess its value is missing a couple zeros, but I consider it priceless anyway....

I would bet there are plenty of cues that have asking prices of $100k+ or are rumored to have had offers of $100k+, but as far as cues that have actually sold for that price go, there are probably only a handful, maybe less.

I am sure to get a scathing PM from Thomas Wayne but if I recall there was some dispute as to which cue maker was the first to sell a cue for more than 100k. Thomas claims it was him I think and Leonard Bludworth also claimed to have been the first to sell a cue for six figures.

Again not sure but I think that this was the reason Thomas said that he would like to inlay Leonard Bludworth's bones, not meant in a good way.

While we are on the subject of high end cues and collecting, be warned that Thomas Wayne has threatened to have the US Customs Inspectors show up at upcoming shows to check my "papers" whatever that means so for any cue dealers and collectors make sure that your ivory-laden cues have the right documentation if Thomas makes good on his threat and calls the government men to any shows.

Or would it be Fish and Wildlife that is responsible? Anyway men with guns and badges is what Thomas threatened to use to make my life miserable so be careful out there when you go to a show where Thomas will be. Especially if you don't want your cues confiscated.

there are many more than that,

This tickled my curiosity...

It'd be great to see some pictures of any cues that have sold for 100k+ and hear any stories behind them.

This coming from the guy that called the local authorities on Jack Justis for running a "production" facility out of a 6 x 8 closet?!?!?

You're a real piece of work. Every cue collector in the world that attends the ICCS should read your threat and have a bonfire with those cases you design.

Hey it isnt me threatening to call the customs. Talk to Thomas.

I am not threatening anyone just giving people a warning about Thomas Wayne's intentions.

There is no way one would ever know. Some cues never see the light of day after leaving the cue makers shop. So why bother guessing?

Yea I usually think in terms of "vintage" cues rather than new ones, so if current cue makers are sending 100k+ cues out of their shops now, then there could indeed be a lot of them....

If I was going to buy a brand new 100k+ cue, then I would indeed want to try to "guess" how many others were out there to get an idea of future value...(that's if I cared at all how much it was going to to worth in the future)...since down the road there will be only so many buyers for 100k+ cues, (just like there are only so many 100k+ vintage cues out there now, I'd say).

Of course, if the materials in a new cue (like diamonds or whatever) make up a big part of the value, then that would be a different matter also....

Yea problem would be finding that "special" buyer that would pay that much for a unique collectable....

Yea a friend of mine has a cue he says he wouldn't sell for 100k since he feels it's worth more...but the problem would be finding that "special" buyer that would pay that much for a unique collectable....

its a narrow market for sure, and what makes it tough now is the liquidity isnt there like it was, it can take much longer to move a hi dollar cue now. however the right cues still sell instantly.

Aren't you a ray of sunshine..

Business owners shouldn't be bashing others on a public forum. You can lose customers. Guaranteed you won't get a referral from me

Sorry, the guy threatens an industry an you have no problem with that? Whatever, the fact is he has ZERO to stand on in that regard. He has sown his own field and is reaping the rewards.

You should also add that they shouldn't be threatening each other also.. but I guess thats ok since you have one of his cases?

Richard Black turned down an offer of 82.000 for this cue:
http://www.blackcues.com/gallery_cues/antipodes.shtml

Then at one time he sold sold another cue for 50.000 that was later sold for 300.000.
Don't now which cue it was but it's pretty well past your six figure limit.

There's more here:

I have one of his cues, not expensive, it's my main shooter, and I love it.
For me it is so much more than the other custom cues I have tried.
