Looking for foil

Any ideas where I can get foil for rebuilding a cue? I will be refinishing this cue as a present for a friend for sentimental reasons. The picture is what is there now and I need to replace it with her father's name on it. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Actually, I recall a guy offering just this very thing in the Main or F/S section.
Probably within the last month or so. All I can tell you is to do a 'search'.
That's all I got.
BTW, touch-up that ferrule when you get around.

Thanks KJ, and that ferrule is already in the act of disappearing, with a new tip.

As an alternative, is there a safe way to disassemble the windows to clean the foils, or replace the cracked clear windows?
Dave

Definitely Doable ...

The window(s) can be replaced and if you need just plain foil tape, there are 3M products available (Google).

The difficulty of the job will depend upon the how your particular cue is assembled and or constructed.

Some cues use the weight bolt to hold the tube sections together and on other cues everything is glued together. Sometimes use of a hair dryer will release the glue and other times not.

Some weight bolts are epoxied in place. If that is the case, removal is straightforward, but I would recommend you leave that job to an experienced cuemaker.

Basically, if nothing is glued and is only held together with the weight bolt, everything should just come apart and slide off the tenon. If that is not the case, I would turn the cue over to a cuemaker experienced in this sort of work.

PS Oops. I am not a cuemaker, just someone who has watched an experienced cuemaker do this exact sort of disassembly and repair.

foil

Dave,

It should'nt be a problem, it will all come apart, I have the clear window tube if you need, and you can also print on the foil. Keep in mind you can polish those windows very nicely.

Well, these windows don't seem easy to remove, :(. Tried heat already but the glue job seems to be very well done, except for the fact the glue leaked into the foils.
Another question, anyone have a spare joint assembly? The Dia. is .850". I only have a shaft side and that is for the second shaft I'm building. The original joint pieces are missing the plating in spots. Willing to buy if some one has a set.
Thanks,
Dave

Dave,
Either I'm not reading correctly or I'm missing something.
The jnt. collar that you want to replace should be solid brass, not plated.
Just polish it.
If anything is chipped-off it's probably a clearcoat that was applied to retard tarnishing.
What you might be looking at is raw, tarnished brass. No biggie, it will polish.

HTHs, KJ

Update

Well, finally got the windows apart. Had to use heatgun, hairdryer wasn't enough. Come to find out, the only foil is the first piece that says ' Professional' The other pieces are actually plastic rings with molded designs with a silver coating.
Mario, what are the dimensions of the tubing you have? The silver rings are 1.110" OD. The windows were cracked already and then broke into pieces when I removed them.
KJ, I'll look closer, but I have polished it and also ran it on a buffing wheel with compound and those spots still look like plating. I still will want to change it if I can.
Thanks for all the help guys.

I may have an old joint for it...... I purchased a few basic brunswick a on fleabay a while ago and don't really have too much use for the shafts.... I was going to convert it to a basic 5/16-18 set up with pin in but not shaft....

Let me know

I think you could make this or something like it work. ( https://spellbinderspaperarts.com/products/p-7-precious-metals-premium-craft-foils-assortment.aspx ) I am a tad bit surprised to so much time and effort being put into one of those cheapo cues, But it'll be the nicest one ever when your finished.
A bit of history, It's a family friend that lost her father unexpectedly about 1-1/2 years ago, and we played for the APA Vegas trip on father's day, the first one without her father. She was a very important part of us making it to Vegas that day even though she was distraught by the fact of it being Father's day. She just found this in her father's storage unit from a long time ago and asked me to do what I can to restore it. It is purely sentimental, and will be a present to her from our team. I hope it turns out well, as I haven't done a window cue restore yet, but hopefully it'll turn out well.
Thanks for all the help guys, and I will post pics of the completed cue when done,
Dave

Thanks for the offer, but I actually need the Butt side of the joint. The one that's on it is actually not concentric with the butt, and a bit undersized also.
Thanks,
Dave

And BTW, thanks for the pm's, but the curly maple blanks are not for sale. Just used as a prop.

The clear tube is 1.250. What length do you need?
